Signal peptide-selection of cDNA cloned directly from the esophageal gland cells of the soybean cyst nematode Heterodera glycines.
Xiaohong Wang,Rex Allen,Xiongfei Ding,Melissa Goellner,Tom R. Maier,Jan M. de Boer,Thomas J. Baum,Richard S. Hussey,Eric L. Davis +8 more
TL;DR: A novel method to isolate cDNA encoding putative nematode secretory proteins was developed that utilizes mRNA for reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction derived from microaspiration of the esophageal gland cell contents of parasitic stages of the soybean cyst nematodes Heterodera glycines.

The Novel Cyst Nematode Effector Protein 19C07 Interacts with the Arabidopsis Auxin Influx Transporter LAX3 to Control Feeding Site Development
Christopher B. Lee,Demosthenis Chronis,Charlotte Kenning,Benjamin Péret,Tarek Hewezi,Eric L. Davis,Thomas J. Baum,Richard S. Hussey,Malcolm J. Bennett,Melissa G. Mitchum +9 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that Hs19C07 most likely increases LAX3-mediated auxin influx and may provide a mechanism for cyst nematodes to modulate auxin flow into root cells, stimulating cell wall hydrolysis for syncytium development.

Effective and specific in planta RNAi in cyst nematodes: expression interference of four parasitism genes reduces parasitic success
TL;DR: Observations demonstrate the relevance of the targeted parasitism genes during the nematode life cycle and suggest that a viable level of resistance in crop plants may be accomplished in the future using this technology against cyst nematodes.

A nematode effector protein similar to annexins in host plants
Nrupali Patel,Noureddine Hamamouch,Chunying Li,Tarek Hewezi,Richard S. Hussey,Thomas J. Baum,Melissa G. Mitchum,Eric L. Davis +7 more
TL;DR: The combined data suggest that nematode secretion of an Hs4F01 annexin-like effector into host root cells may mimic plant annexin function during the parasitic interaction.

Nematode CLE signaling in Arabidopsis requires CLAVATA2 and CORYNE
Amy Replogle,Jianying Wang,Andrea Bleckmann,Richard S. Hussey,Thomas J. Baum,Shinichiro Sawa,Eric L. Davis,Xiaohong Wang,Rüdiger Simon,Melissa G. Mitchum +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that CLV2 and CORYNE (CRN), members of the receptor kinase family, are required for nematode CLE signaling and involved in the formation and/or maintenance of nematodes-induced syncytia.
