Association between polymorphisms of the GPX1 gene and second primary tumours after index squamous cell cancer of the head and neck.
S Jefferies,Z Kote-Jarai,David E. Goldgar,Richard S. Houlston,M.-J. Frazer-Williams,Roger A'Hern,J.M. Henk,Martin Gore,Peter Rhys-Evans,D. J. Archer,K Bishop,Ellen Solomon,Shirley Hodgson,Mark McGurk,J. Hibbert,M. O’Connell,M. Partridge,E. Chevretton,F. Calman,M. Saunders,K. Shotton,A.E. Brown,S. Whittaker,William D. Foulkes +23 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that polymorphisms in the GPX1 gene may be a marker for SPT development and further studies are indicated.

No evidence for epigenetic inactivation of fumarate hydratase in leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas
Karen Barker,Hayley E. Spendlove,Nassera S. Banu,Julia A. Bridge,Cyril Fisher,Janet Shipley,Michelle D. Garrett,Isaac Manyonda,Richard S. Houlston +8 more
TL;DR: A highly specific antibody to FH is developed and a series of fresh-frozen uterine leiomyomas and nine leoomyosarcomas are analysed for FH expression to exclude a role for Fh in tumour development outside the context of MCUL1/HLRCC.

Genetic prognostic markers in colorectal cancer.
Richard S. Houlston,I. P. M. Tomlinson +1 more
- 01 Dec 1997
TL;DR: It is clear that a number of different pathways exist for the development of this cancer and some molecular characteristics correlate with clinicopathological features, and it should be possible to evaluate fully the clinical usefulness of colorectal cancer genotypes through multivariate analyses.

TL;DR: The haematology sub-group is also working closely with the DH advisor for the National Laboratory Medicine Catalogue on the incorporation of the changes of nomenclature and units into the NLMC, the standard for pathology test requests and results reporting, under collaborative development by the RCPath, the Department of Health and NHS Connecting for Health.
Transverse limb deficiency, facial clefting and hypoxic renal damage: an association with treatment of maternal hypertension?
TL;DR: It is proposed that the drugs caused maternal hypotension which led to reduced uteroplacental blood flow, fetal hypotension and hypoxia and that the anomalies seen in the two babies are a consequence of these events.
