Remote sensing by VLF using "Absolute OmniPAL". 1. Investigation of short path propagation for possible earthquake precursor detection
Richard L. Dowden,James B. Brundell,M. Hayakawa +2 more
- 02 Jun 1998
TL;DR: In this paper, the first six weeks of data logged of JG2AS phase and amplitude at three sites in Japan is examined for perturbations and two sources are identified: solar flares during daytime and hiss-induced electron precipitation during nighttime.

Non-linear magnetospheric amplification of VLF transmissions
TL;DR: In this paper, non-linear amplification of a monochromatic VLF transmission in the magnetosphere produces an output fluctuating in amplitude and phase, and so is not monochrome, and can be resolved into two waves: one similar to the input, but stronger, and a higher frequency sideband or "embryo emission".

asma Density in Sprite VLF Scatter Measurements
Richard L. Dowden,Craig J. Rodger +1 more
- 01 Jan 1997
TL;DR: In this article, the VLF to MF backscatter from red sprites is investigated by the use of a one-dimensional model, in which the sprite is considered as an infinite vertical slab of plasma.
