And further comprising a step of re-encryption of the encrypted accessed medical transaction record with a key associated with an intended recipient of the medical record. The system and method according to the present invention presents a new business model for creation, maintenance, transmission, and use of medical records. The invention also allows financial burdens to be reallocated optimally and equitably, resulting in decreased overall societal cost and providing a successful business model for a database proprietor. Secure entrusted medical records are held in trust by an independent third party on behalf of the patient (113), and serve the medical community at large. Separately encrypted record elements may be aggregated as an information polymer.

The data transmission may be made secure with respect to the intermediary by providing an asymmetric key or direct key exchange for encryption of the communication between the first and second party. Applications of the interface and system include a video cassette recorder (VCR), medical device, vehicle control system, audio device, environmental control system, securities trading terminal, and smart house. The system optionally includes an actuator for effecting the environment of operation, allowing closed-loop feedback operation and automated learning.

In accordance with the method and system of the present invention, a processor and a system memory are connected to a system bus. One or more PCI local buses are connected to the system bus through a single PCI host bridge having bus and frequency control logic and bus clocks. The PCI local buses include sets of in-line electronic switches, dividing each PCI local bus into PCI local bus segments for supporting more PCI peripheral component slots then are called out by the PCI local bus standard. The sets of in-line electronic switches are open and closed in accordance with the bus and frequency control logic within the PCI host bridge thereby allowing the PCI peripheral component slots to operate at different bus frequencies, including bus frequencies higher than 66 MHz by using the bus clocks. The sets of in-line electronic switches further allowing different bus segments on the same PCI logical bus to dynamically be operated at different frequencies.

Method and system for supporting multiple local buses operating at different frequencies

A peripheral interconnect for a computer system comprising a bridge, a peripheral bus, and a peripheral device, wherein at least one of these components is adapted to selectively operate in either a high performance mode or a low performance mode, the high performance mode using a first operating speed and a first protocol, and the low performance mode using a second operating speed which is lower than said first operating speed, and a second protocol which is different from the first protocol. The disclosed embodiment provides a high performance mode with a 100 MHz speed and a protocol that disallows pacing, and a low performance mode that uses a 66 MHz or 33 MHz speed and a standard PCI protocol that allows pacing. The high performance operating speed can be twice the low performance operating speed, by doubling the clock frequency and clocking data on only one clock edge, or by clocking data on both a rising edge and a falling edge of a clock signal while operating at the lower clock frequency. High performance adapters can provide split transaction capability, with a high performance bridge having the ability to support split transactions or alias split transactions to delayed transactions. Backward compatibility may also be provided for optional features such as hot-pluggability.

The IOIC, interconnected between the synchronous bus and asynchronous bus, functions as a buffer between the faster synchronous bus and the slower asynchronous bus. Various operations are performed between an IOBU and the memory unit via the asynchronous bus, IOIC, synchronous bus, and SC/IOIU, such as a unit operation, a storage operation, and a message acceptance operation.

The present invention accomplishes bus utilization optimization by enabling each device to signal another bus device when it has completion information in its output buffers. For example, when an I/O device attempts to read data from a system device, a RETRY may be signalled to the requesting I/O device. A control signal is sent from the bridge to the requesting I/O device when there is completion data in its output buffers. In this manner, the present invention eliminates or reduces the multiple RETRY actions by the I/O device, since it will not attempt to obtain the data until it receives the control signal from the bridge.
