Ångström–Prescott equation: Physical basis, empirical models and sensitivity analysis
Marius Paulescu,Nicoleta Stefu,Delia-Gabriela Calinoiu,Eugenia Paulescu,Nicolina Pop,Remus Boata,Oana Mares +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the Angstrom-Prescott equation from three different perspectives: (1) the physical basis, (2) the accuracy of the empirical models and (3) the sensitivity to geographical and seasonal factors.

Structured, physically inspired (gray box) models versus black box modeling for forecasting the output power of photovoltaic plants
TL;DR: The results show that a moderate, carefully chosen increase in model structure complexity can improve the predictive performance, and aitable penalty on model complexity can help both to enforce parsimony and improve practical forecasting abilities, to a certain extent.

Influence of aerosols pollution on the amount of collectable solar energy
Delia Calinoiu,Marius Paulescu,Ioana Ionel,Nicoleta Stefu,Nicolina Pop,Remus Boata,Angel Pacurar,Paul Mircea Gravila,Eugenia Paulescu,Gavrila Trif-Tordai +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a parametric clear sky solar irradiance model has been built and validated to estimate collectable solar energy losses in aerosol pollution events, and the energy loss in a pollution episode was evaluated as the difference between the clear sky sun irradiation computed in two situations: (1) using measured values for all inputs and (2) using all inputs excepting the Angstrom turbidity coefficient, for which a climatological reference value has been assumed.

Nowcasting solar irradiance using the sunshine number
Marius Paulescu,Oana Mares,Eugenia Paulescu,Nicoleta Stefu,Angel Pacurar,Delia Calinoiu,Paul Mircea Gravila,Nicolina Pop,Remus Boata,Remus Boata +9 more
TL;DR: An innovative two-state model is proposed: if the sun is shining, the solar irradiance is estimated with an empirical model fitted on historical data; if theSun is covered, the clear sky solar irradiances is adjusted according to the cloud transmittance.

Parametric modeling: A simple and versatile route to solar irradiance
Delia Calinoiu,Delia Calinoiu,Nicoleta Stefu,Remus Boata,Robert Blaga,Nicolina Pop,Eugenia Paulescu,Andreea Sabadus,Marius Paulescu +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an upgraded version of the SIMv.2 model was proposed to improve the accuracy of estimates in arid environment, such as aerosol absorption and downward fraction, targeting a better capture of the peculiarities of the solar radiation extinction by aerosols.
