Epstein-Barr Virus and Its Association with Oral Hairy Leukoplakia: A Short Review
TL;DR: In immunocompromised subjects, Epstein-Barr virus infection of terminally differentiated oral keratinocytes may result in subclinical productive infection of the virus in the stratum spinosum and in thestratum granulosum with shedding of infectious virions into the oral fluid in the desquamating cells.

TL;DR: In Ga-Rankuwa, South Africa where HIV-KS is prevalent, oral KS affects similarly males and females, and a low CD4+ T-cell count at the time of oral HIV- KS diagnosis and the development of facial lymphoedema during the course of HIV-KA portends a poor prognosis.
