TL;DR: This article showed that spaced odor training and post-training sleep induce long-term memory in Caenorhabditis elegans and showed that sleep is required for events immediately after training that drive memory consolidation and alter synaptic structures.

Olfactory memory consolidation requires the TRPV channel OSM-9 in sensory neurons of the circuit.
Kelli L. Benedetti,Fatema A. Saifuddin,Julia M. Miller,Rashmi Chandra,Alec Chen,Raymond L. Dunn,Julia Kaye,Bo Zhang,Saul Kato,Maria Gallegos,Noelle D. L'Etoile +10 more
TL;DR: A new role for osm-9 in consolidation of memory that is induced by repeated, spaced training is described and the endogenous expression pattern of OSM-9 is investigated, indicating that the circuit participates in olfactory memory consolidation.

Relative phase of distributed oscillatory dynamics implements a working memory in a simple brain
Raymond L. Dunn,Caitriona Costello,Jackson M. Borchardt,Daniel Y. Sprague,Grace C. Chiu,Julia M. Miller,Noelle D. L'Etoile,Saul Kato +7 more
TL;DR: A working memory system in C. elegans is implemented by the relative phase of distributed oscillatory dynamics, enabling sensory-guided decision-making and deferred action through phasic interaction of two neural ensembles.
