Academic self-efficacy, self-esteem, satisfaction with studies, and virtual media use as depression and emotional exhaustion predictors among college students during COVID-19

Flipped classroom is a strategy that began to be used at the higher education as a measure to improve the performance and motivation of students. As one of the first activities of the research project in which this article is framed, a search was made of the state of the art of the flipped classroom in higher education. For this, a systematic review of the scientific literature was carried out, with the aim of knowing if the flipped classroom methodology is applied in higher education, what tools are used and if they correspond to Web 3.0. On the other side, it was analyzed whether the application of this methodology generates competencies, such as: learning continuously and autonomously; perform effectively in work teams; solve engineering problems and effectively use application techniques and tools in engineering; which correspond to the competencies sought in the project under analysis. The article presents the results of the systematic review, which shows that the flipped classroom is applied in engineering education, that different tools are used but that this implementation must have certain considerations to be applied successfully, such as: the correct planning of the activities to be carried out by both the students and the teachers, the knowledge of both actors about the methodology to be used, among others.

El aula invertida como estrategia didáctica para la generación de competencias: una revisión sistemática

Schools have traditionally focused on the cognitive development of students without paying attention to how emotions modulate the students’ psychological state and how this affects their academic performance. For that, the aim of this study is to determine the influence of emotions on the motivation of primary school students to learn French as a foreign language, and their influence on the adoption of adaptive habits and academic performance. For this purpose, the sample of participants consisted of 394 students who ranged in age from 10 to 13 years who answered three questionnaires on the study variables. Several statistical analyses were carried out that helped explain the causal relationships between the study variables and a predictive model hypothesized through structural equation modeling was created. The results revealed that positive emotion positively influenced academic motivation. At the same time, academic motivation was positively related to leisure habits related to French, and this was positively related to academic performance. In light of these results, the importance of attending to emotions in a foreign language class is highlighted, as well as the academic motivation of the students as it leads to adaptive behaviors and habits related to the learning of French.

The Influence of Emotions, Motivation and Habits in the Academic Performance of Primary Education Students in French as a Foreign Language

The present research aimed to describe the academic burnout of the students of the professional education career of a public university in Madre de Dios (Peru). The research approach was quantitative, the design was non-experimental, and the type was descriptive-transectional. The sample consisted of 220 students to whom a sociodemographic and academic data questionnaire was applied as well as the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey (MBI-SS), an instrument with adequate levels of validity and reliability. The findings indicate that students are characterized by moderate levels of academic burnout and it was determined that some variables such as sex, age group, work situation and year of study are significantly associated with academic burnout. Finally, it was concluded that it is necessary to design and implement programs that develop the protective factors of students so that they can adequately cope with adverse and stressful situations and thus decrease the prevalence of academic burnout.

La adquisicion de una segunda lengua constituye un aspecto fundamental en la sociedad globalizada del siglo XXI. La politica publica nacional en Chile opto por promover el aprendizaje del idioma ingles. En ese contexto, el objetivo del estudio fue describir la percepcion de los estudiantes acerca de la incorporacion de la metodologia flipped classroom en la asignatura de Ingles Comunicacional en las carreras de Arquitectura e Ingenieria Civil Quimica. Se realizo un estudio descriptivo de tipo diseno transversal con muestreo no probabilistico intencional. Se diseno y valido un cuestionario mediante Juicio de Expertos en educacion, el cual contemplo tres dimensiones: el aprendizaje antes de la clase, aprendizaje en el aula y la valoracion de la metodologia. Los datos fueron analizados mediante estadistica descriptiva y los resultados muestran que el estudiantado valora disponer de los videos con los contenidos, los cuales podian revisar previo a la clase presencial. Asimismo, ellos se percibieron como protagonistas de su aprendizaje y el docente como un guia y facilitador. En conclusion, la metodologia diversifica los momentos para aprender, mejora el conocimiento previo y optimiza un proceso de formacion centrado en el estudiante.

Las variables explicativas del alto cansancio emocional en este estudio son el sexo masculino, pertenecer a sector urbano y aumento de consumo de taba co. El estudio del BA es importante para tomar medidas preventivas en el transcurso de la vida universitaria para garantizar a futuro el com promiso y mejor desempeno por parte de los estudiantes que realizan su practica profesional. The objective of this study was to determine the existence of academic burnout and its association with sociodemographic variables in the 5th year stu dents of speech language pathology. A questionnaire was applied to 47 intern students in order to gather personal, academic and social backgrounds. After to evaluate the academic burnout, the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Student Survey was applied. The students evaluated did not present the syndrome, although the emotional fatigue factor was presented with higher scores. There are also no differences in the scores of the syndrome for students who did their practice in both health and education setting. The explana tory variables of high emotional fatigue in this study were male sex, belonging to the urban sector and increased tobacco consumption. The BA study is important to take preventive measures over the university life to ensure future commitment and better performance by students who perform their professional practice.
