Overcoming barriers to implement digital technologies to achieve sustainable production and consumption in the food sector: A circular economy perspective

A common and comprehensive framework that clarifies the choice of a reverse logistics (RL) strategy is still unavailable in the extant literature. Such a complete framework for RL decision‐making has the potential to offer insights for the choice of RL strategies, particularly in this era where closed‐loop supply chain is gaining traction in research and practice. Thus, this study seeks to identify RL strategies based on a systematic literature review and industry consultation. The study used the systematic literature review approach to analyse articles collected mostly from the Scopus database. The outcome is a framework, referred to as the “Returned Product‐Process Matrix” (RPPM), that offers a holistic view of RL strategies, which can serve as a decision‐support system for practitioners in choosing the appropriate RL strategy. To the best of the researchers' knowledge, the RPPM is the first attempt at comprehensively structuring and clarifying the RL decision‐making in green logistics operations.

The returned product‐process matrix: A decision‐making framework for reverse logistics operations strategic choice

Determining the motivations behind adopting a circular economy (CE) and its effect on firm performance (FP) from the perspective of manufacturing firms has become essential for practitioners and scholars. Nonetheless, there exists a substantial unexplored gap regarding how customer citizenship behaviour (CCB) motivates and influences the adoption of CE practices and FP of manufacturing firms in the context of developing countries. Therefore, using insights from the social exchange theory, this study explores the framework through which CCB influences the relationship between CE practices and FP. The study employed a quantitative approach and partial least square structural equation modelling technique to analyse data and interpretations due to its appropriateness for predictive research models. Data was collected using a survey research strategy. The findings revealed that CCB mediates and moderates the relationship between CE practices and FP. The study highlights the significance of CCB in making CE initiatives mandatory for organisational growth while guiding managers, policymakers and scholars.

Circular economy, customer citizenship behaviour and firm performance: Some empirical evidence

Labels are a crucial component of products, offering informational content and attractive visuals; therefore, the durability of the print is an important quality requirement. On the other hand, in accordance with eco-design, the recyclability of printed labels is vital. In our research, the focus was on the assessment of the durability, recyclability, and deinkability of printed label paper equipped with printed RFID tags. The determined color fastness of electrophotographic prints affected by various environmental factors showed good resistance to dry rubbing and, in most cases, light and moist–heat treatment, confirming the applicability of digital printing on self-adhesive biodegradable paper labels. In the second part of this study, recyclability was assessed, and a comparison between the deinkability of the offset and digital prints and two conductive functional inks was conducted. Good deinkability was observed for the printed RFID antennas on both the offset and electrographic prints, with only a small deterioration in optical properties, especially when nano-silver conductive ink was used. The study highlights the importance of the selection of materials and printing techniques when considering the environmental impact of printed electronics. The results showed that INGEDE 11 is a suitable deinking method for printed RFID antennas on offset and electrographic prints.

Hence, a complete scheme, such as this, for the categorisation of resources that affect the implementation of reverse logistics is essential. This provides a useful information for business managers and extends reverse logistics research.Design/methodology/approachThis study systematically identified, and validated with the help of reverse logistics experts, the resources that affect the implementation of reverse logistics.FindingsThe result is a classification scheme, termed as “reverse logistics resource matrix” (RLRM). This matrix offers a holistic overview of the resources that affect the implementation of reverse logistics for both scholars and practitioners.Originality/valueTo best of the researchers' knowledge, the RLRM is the first attempt to comprehensively structure the resources that affect the implementation of reverse logistics in an integrated framework.
