A system and method for delivering increases speed, security, and intelligence to wireline and wireless systems. The present invention includes a new generation Fast Circuit Switch (packet/circuit) Communication processors and platform which enables a new Internet Exchange Networking Processor Architecture at the edge and core of every communication system, for next generation Web Operating System or Environment (WOE) to operate on with emphasis of a non-local processor or networking processor with remote web computing capabilities. A Unified Network Communication & Processor System or UniNet is a New generation network architecture of packet/circuit communication processors or Internet networking processor, that increases speeds over any communication channels and topologies, synchronizing, enabling, improving, controlling and securing all of the data transmission of web applications over existing wireline and wireless infrastructure while providing seamless integration to the legacy telecom & data corn backbone. The present invention is capable of operating on any topology with distributed intelligence and data switching/routing, which is located at the edge. This method not only alleviates the ever increasing data processing bottleneck which is currently done by the data communication and telecom switch and routers, but it also enables new and next generation Internet Processor architecture. The UniNet is also a flexible solution for the novel concept that the capability of a network interface should depend on the level of service assigned to a service access point, not the capacity of the total network, such as transaction services with a short burst of messages with short access delay. The present invention increases channel capacity by using a parallel or multi-channel structure in such wireless and wireline at the edge or the core of. This new architecture of the present invention uses parallel bitstreams in a flexible way and distributed switching/routing technique, is not only to avoid the potential bottlenet of centralized switches, but also to increase speed with intelligence that is seamlessly integrating into the Fiber Optic Backbone such as WDM and SONET of the MAN/WAN network with a Real-time guarantees, different types of traffic (such as Stringent synchronous, isochronous, and asynchronous data messages) with different demands, and privacy & security of multi access and integrated services environment.

Nodes on a network are synchronized with each other using a clock transfer system (16). The communications channels between the nodes are then measured (164) and calibrated (163) for optimal bandwidth. The optimized channels and synchronization enable a new form of signaling based on precise control of the frequency, amplitude, and phase of the waveform of the signal. Receiving nodes receive information in order to locate the signal at the frequency, phase and amplitude. Precision control (165, 166) of these parameters also serves as a unique signature of the transmitting node preventing security breaches (162) as the signal's characteristics are unique to the transmitting node. The channel is continuously updated with a precision control system (165, 166) to insure that the nodes are not out of phase.

Means and method for a synchronous network communications system

A device and method of providing wireless communications is provided. In one embodiment, the method includes determining that a plurality of wireless networks are concurrently available to provide wireless communication for a telephone device wherein the plurality of wireless networks include different types of networks, selecting one of the plurality of wireless networks based, at least in part, one or more rules, establishing a first wireless communication link with a remote device via the selected network, and wherein the one or more rules are configured to reduce a cost of communicating data. Other embodiments may include various other selection criteria for selecting a network such as, for example, the available bandwidth of one or more of the networks and the type of data to be communicated.

An apparatus and method is provided for resolving virtual network names using one or more name routers. A conventional Uniform Resource Locator (URL) naming scheme is extended by allowing any component to be mapped to an address. The resolution process occurs recursively through a plurality of name routers. Resolution can be contextual, such that the same virtual network name may be resolved differently depending on the identity of the client or other parameters.

In an exemplary embodiment the service negotiation system is implemented in a wireless spread spectrum communication system. The service configuration comprises data rates, frame formats and types of services. Types of service may include speech encoding, facsimile or digital data services. Further described herein is a digital transmitter and receiver using the service negotiation system to provide service configuration mutually acceptable at both ends of a communication link.

Method for providing service and rate negotiation in a mobile communication system

A method for feature negotiations between two synchronous modems. To engage in negotiations a modem must be configured to support synchronous operation, a data transfer rate of at least 4800 bits per second, and at least one non-default feature. After the orginating modem and the answering modem have completed standard handshaking sequences the originating modem initiates the negotiations by sending a list of supported features. The answering modem responds by confirming that all the features are supported, by returning a subset of the features list, or by sending a different features list. If the answering modem did not confirm the list then the originating modem responds to the subset or to the different list by confirming the subset or different list, by returning a subset of the different list, or by sending another different list. If the originating modem does not initiate the negotiations, if the answering modem does not respond to the list sent by the originating modem, or if negotiations are not completed within a predetermined time after completion of the standard handshaking sequences, then the modems use standard (default) features.

A feature negotiation protocol for synchronous operation and a dynamically adjustable retraining sequence. An originating modem, after completing conventional or standard handshaking sequences, sends a list of desired features to an answering modem. The answering modem either concurs with the desired features, if they are all supported, or sends, back to the originating modem, a list of those features which are supported by the answering modem. After the end of a negotiation time-out period, both modems begin operation using the features which are common to both modems or by using default (standard) features for operation. If the adjustable duration retraining sequence is selected then each modem will measure the elapsed time since the end of its last transmission and, at the beginning of its next transmission, send a retraining sequence which is dependent upon this elapsed time. Likewise, each modem will measure the amount of elapsed time since the end of its last reception and expect to receive a retraining sequence which is dependent upon this elapsed time. The adjustable duration retraining sequence generally operates to reduce the total retraining sequence and thereby increases the data throughput rate. The result is a modem which has enhanced feature negotiation capabilities and also a higher data throughput rate.
