The analysis of persons' indoor movement and behavior patterns can be of great value. Such an analysis enables managers and organizers in understanding the needs of customers and visitors. Event planning for exhibitions, festivals, and conferences, but also optimization of malls and stores can benefit from recorded visitor data. To show the advantage of visual analysis of movement information, we apply a new visual approach to a large indoor dataset, recorded at the republican conference in 2013. We present three different interactive visualization methods to reveal patterns, to deduce behavior from participants' movements, and to show transitions between sessions and topics. For this, we apply a spectral hierarchical clustering approach and visualize results in a pixel based scarf plot. Additionally, we introduce a prediction model and visualization which serves as a monitoring tool for visitor attraction and distribution and helps to prevent bottleneck situations. We evaluate our approach by showing its applicability in a case study and validate our model on ground truth data.

Visual Analysis of Visitor Behavior for Indoor Event Management

Ce travail traite du probleme de la simulation et de l'assistance par ordinateur d'une operation chirurgicale. Nous abordons trois aspects de ce probleme. Tout d'abord, nous decrivons un systeme d'assistance en temps-reel a une operation chirurgicale particuliere : la retroperitoneoscopie. Ce systeme permet d'afficher en continu des images de synthese en fonction des deplacements de l'instrument chirurgical. Le chirurgien dispose ainsi d'informations supplementaires lui permettant de rendre son geste plus rapide et precis. Nous detaillons la conception et la realisation de ce systeme, ainsi que les experimentations sur specimen anatomique. Ensuite, pour aller plus loin et simuler effectivement le comportement des organes du patient au cours de l'operation, nous avons concu un nouveau modele de systeme de solides. Ce modele fait cohabiter des solides rigides polygonaux et des solides fortement deformables representes par un maillage de type ''elements finis''. L'hypothese d'une evolution quasi-statique du systeme et l'utilisation de lois de comportement elastique issues de la mecanique permettent d'obtenir un modele robuste et realiste. Nous detaillons l'implementation de ce modele et presentons quelques resultats proches des comportements ''chirurgicaux''. Enfin, nous etudions quelques outils mathematiques et algorithmiques utilises dans les deux systemes precedents : la representation des rotations, la mecanique des milieux continus, la mise en correspondance rigide de nuages de points apparies, et la detection d'objets circulaires et elliptiques et de grilles dans des images en niveaux de gris.

Modélisation géométrique et dynamique d'un geste chirurgical

We propose the use of interactive, user-in-the-loop techniques for controlling physically-based animated characters. With a suitably designed interface, the continuous and discrete input actions afforded by a standard mouse and keyboard allow for the creation of a broad range of motions. We apply our techniques to interactively control planar dynamic simulations of a bounding cat, a gymnastic desk lamp, and a human character capable of walking, running, climbing, and various gymnastic behaviors. The interactive control techniques allows a performer's intuition and knowledge about motion planning to be readily exploited. Video games are the current target application of this work.

Interactive control for physically-based animation

Physics-based animation can be generated by performing a complete dynamical simulation of multibody systems. This leads to the solving of a complex system of differential equations in which biomechanical results for the physics of impacts are incorporated. Motion control is achieved by interactively modifying the internal torques. Realtime response requires the distribution of the workload of the computation between a high-speed compute server and the graphics workstation by means of a remote-procedure call mechanism.
