Factors affecting local regrowth after watch and wait for patients with a clinical complete response following chemoradiotherapy in rectal cancer (InterCoRe consortium): an individual participant data meta-analysis
Sami A Chadi,Lee Malcomson,Joie Ensor,Richard D Riley,Carlos A. Vaccaro,Gustavo Rossi,Ian R. Daniels,Neil J. Smart,M. Osborne,Geerard L. Beets,Geerard L. Beets,Monique Maas,Danielle S. Bitterman,K.L. Wexner,Angelita Habr-Gama,Guilherme Pagin São Julião,Rodrigo Oliva Perez,Andrew G Renehan +33 more
TL;DR: There is some evidence that increasing cT stage was associated with increased risk of local regrowth and this data will inform clinician-patient decision making in this setting, as well as other predictors of a sustained clinical complete response.

Surveillance after neoadjuvant therapy in advanced rectal cancer with complete clinical response can have comparable outcomes to total mesorectal excision.
TL;DR: Comparing outcomes between patients treated with CRT that attained a cCR and opted for a vigilant surveillance to those of the patients who had a complete pathologic response (cPR) following proctectomy suggests that non-operative management may be a safe alternative.

Comparative Effectiveness and Risks of Bowel Preparation Before Elective Colorectal Surgery.
Sarah Koller,Katherine W. Bauer,Brian L. Egleston,Radhika Smith,Matthew M. Philp,Howard M. Ross,Nestor F. Esnaola +6 more
TL;DR: The use of MBP alone before elective colorectal resection to prevent SSI is ineffective and should be abandoned; OA and MBP + OA are associated with decreased risks of SSI and are not associated with increased risks of other adverse outcomes compared with no preparation.

Postoperative Outcomes in Ustekinumab-Treated Patients Undergoing Abdominal Operations for Crohn's Disease.
Amy L. Lightner,Nicholas P. McKenna,Chung Sang Tse,Neil Hyman,Radhika Smith,Gayane Ovsepyan,Phillip Fleshner,Kristen T. Crowell,Walter A. Koltun,Marc Ferrante,André D'Hoore,Nathalie Lauwers,Bram Verstockt,Antonino Spinelli,Francesca DiCandido,Laura E. Raffals,Kellie L. Mathis,Edward V. Loftus +17 more
TL;DR: Ustekinumab treatment within 12 weeks of surgery does not appear to increase the risk of postoperative SSI above that of CD patients treated with anti-TNF medications, and no significant predictors identified on multivariable analysis.

Impact of BMI on postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing proctectomy for rectal cancer: a national surgical quality improvement program analysis.
TL;DR: Obese and underweight patients undergoing proctectomy for neoplasm are at a higher risk for postoperative complications and death.
