The pathology of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders occurring in the setting of cyclosporine A-prednisone immunosuppression.
Michael A. Nalesnik,R. Jaffe,T. E. Starzl,Anthony J. Demetris,KA Porter,Burnham J,L Makowka,Ho M,Joseph Locker +8 more
TL;DR: Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs) were diagnosed in 43 patients from the Pittsburgh-Denver series between June 1980 and March 1987 and a histologic spectrum of lesions ranging from infectious mononucleosis to malignant lymphoma constitutes the entity known as PTLD.

TL;DR: Study of the relatively low incidence of CR in liver allografts, and the ability of the liver to recover from CR, will likely lead to valuable insights into transplantation immunobiology in general.

Antibody-mediated rejection of human orthotopic liver allografts. A study of liver transplantation across ABO blood group barriers.
Anthony J. Demetris,R. Jaffe,Andreas G. Tzakis,Glenn Ramsey,S. Todo,Steven H. Belle,Carlos O. Esquivel,Ron Shapiro,B.H. Markus,E Mroczek +9 more
TL;DR: Clinopathologic analysis of liver transplantation across major ABO blood group barriers confirmed that antibody mediated rejection of the liver occurs and allows for the development of criteria for establishing the diagnosis of humoral rejection.

S100 protein positive dendritic cells in primary biliary cirrhosis and other chronic inflammatory liver diseases. Relevance to pathogenesis
TL;DR: In contrast, intra-epithelial S100 + DC were not found with any consistency in sclerosing cholangitis, secondary biliary cirrhosis, extrahepatic biliary atresia, or chronic liver allograft rejection, all of which are characterized by inflammatory bile duct damage.

Cryptosporidial infections after solid organ transplantation in children.
TL;DR: Endoscopy and biopsy is recommended for pediatric transplant patients who present with chronic diarrhea of unknown etiology because cryptosporidiosis is a non‐lethal complication and allows the clinician to gain further insight into the degree of immunosuppression of their patient.
