Phase equilibria, molecular conformation, and dynamics in phosphatidylcholine/phosphatidylethanolamine bilayers
TL;DR: A comparison of the temperature dependence of the 13C and 2H spectra shows the phase transition mechanism to be a function of composition, which supports the hypothesis that the gel-state lattice changes from the L beta or P beta to the Lbeta configuration with increasing DPPE content.

Molecular dynamics and conformation in the gel and liquid-crystalline phases of phosphatidylethanolamine bilayers.
TL;DR: Solid-state deuterium and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra used to study the molecular dynamics and conformation of dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamine in both the gel and liquid-crystalline phases suggest that the backbone is in a gauche conformation in the gel state, rather than a trans conformation such as found in single crystals.

Deuterium NMR Studies of Dynamics in Solids
Robert G. Griffin,Kebede Beshah,R. Ebelhäuser,Tai Huang Huang,E.T. Olejniczak,D. M. Rice,D. J. Siminovitch,R. J. Wittebort +7 more
TL;DR: Deuterium NMR has been used extensively to study the rates and mechanisms of dynamic processes in solids as discussed by the authors, and experimental methods for obtaining the spectra are reviewed, and the utility of the technique is illustrated with examples of systems executing two-and three-fold hops.
