We establish an analytic local Hopf bifurcation theorem and a topological global Hopf bifurcation theorem to detect the existence and to describe the spatial-temporal pattern, the asymptotic form and the global continuation of bifurcations of periodic wave solutions for functional differential equations in the presence of symmetry. We apply these general results to obtain the coexistence of multiple large-amplitude wave solutions for the delayed Hopfield-Cohen-Grossberg model of neural networks with a symmetric circulant connection matrix.

Presents a model for genetic regulatory networks with time delays, which is described by functional differential equations or delay differential equations (DDE), provide necessary and sufficient conditions for simplifying the genetic network model, and further analyze nonlinear properties of the model in terms of local stability and bifurcation. The proposed model transforms the original interacting network into several simple transcendental equations at an equilibrium, thereby significantly reducing the computational complexity and making analysis of stability and bifurcation tractable for even large-scale networks. Finally, to test the theory, a repressilator model is used as an example for numerical simulation.

Stability of genetic regulatory networks with time delay

In 1972 May showed that for a large linear system with random coupling the system size and the average coupling strength must together satisfy a simple inequality to ensure the stability of the equilibrium point. Here we extend the analysis to delay coupled systems. Our calculations establish that the same inequality obtained by May constrains the stability for systems randomly coupled through discrete and distributed delays.

The local properties of non-linear differential-difference equations are investigated by considering the location of the roots of the eigen-equation derived from the lineraised approximation of the original model. A general linear system incorporating one time delay is considered and local stability results are obtained for cases in which the coefficient matrices satisfy certain assumptions. The results have applications to recent Biological and Economic models incorporating time lags.
