The invention provides an LED backlight driving circuit comprising an over-current protection starting circuit, a reference voltage generating module and an LED driving chip with a short-circuit detecting module. The over-current protection starting circuit comprises a filter delay input module and the reference voltage generating module. A backlight adjustment signal is input into the input end of the reference voltage generating module. The filter delay input module and the reference voltage generating module are both connected with the input end of a comparison control module. The output end of the comparison control module is connected with the LED driving chip. The reference voltage of the over-current protection starting circuit is provided according to a load change in an LED backlight circuit, thereby starting the over-current protection module of the LED driving chip. The LED backlight driving circuit is capable of accurately detecting a short-circuit condition in a LED backlight unit, and avoiding the influence of the impact of transient large current during startup on the normal operation of a LCD.
