TL;DR: The assembled chromosome‐level reference genome for Achatina immaculata and compared the genomes of two giant African snails to other available mollusc genomes suggested a WGD event, and the adaptive mechanism of WGD in terrestrial ecosystems was confirmed by the presence of gene families related to the respiration, aestivation and immune defence.

TL;DR: The WGD reported herein may have been a common event shared by all Sigmurthra-Orthurethra species and could have conferred ecological adaptability and genomic plasticity allowing the survival of the K-T extinction.
