Biomimetic flexible electronics for E-skin have received increasing attention, due to their ability to sense various movements. However, the development of smart skin-mimic material remains a challenge. Here, a simple and effective approach is reported to fabricate super-tough, stretchable, and self-healing conductive hydrogel consisting of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), Ti3 C2 Tx MXene nanosheets, and polypyrrole (PPy) (PMP hydrogel). The MXene nanosheets and Fe3+ serve as multifunctional cross-linkers and effective stress transfer centers, to facilitate a considerable high conductivity, super toughness, and ultra-high stretchability (elongation up to 4300%) for the PMP hydrogel with. The hydrogels also exhibit rapid self-healing and repeatable self-adhesive capacity because of the presence of dynamic borate ester bond. The flexible capacitive strain sensor made by PMP hydrogel shows a relatively broad range of strain sensing (up to 400%), with a self-healing feature. The sensor can precisely monitor various human physiological signals, including joint movements, facial expressions, and pulse waves. The PMP hydrogel-based supercapacitor is demonstrated with a high capacitance retention of ≈92.83% and a coulombic efficiency of ≈100%.

A Simple and Effective Physical Ball-Milling Strategy to Prepare Super-Tough and Stretchable PVA@MXene@PPy Hydrogel for Flexible Capacitive Electronics.

For graphene oxide (GO) composite hydrogels, a two-dimensional GO material is introduced into them, whose special structure is used to improve their properties. GO contains abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, which can improve the mechanical properties of hydrogels and support the application needs. Especially, the unique-conjugated structure of GO can endow or enhance the stimulation response of hydrogels. Therefore, GO composite hydrogels have a great potential in the field of wearable devices. We referred to the works published in recent years, and reviewed from these aspects: (a) structure of GO; (b) factors affecting the mechanical properties of the composite hydrogel, including hydrogen bond, ionic bond, coordination bond and physical crosslinking; (c) stimuli and signals; (d) challenges. Finally, we summarized the research progress of GO composite hydrogels in the field of wearable devices, and put forward some prospects.

Agriculture is facing challenges such as water scarcity, low fertilizer utilization, food security and environmental sustainability. Therefore, the development of slow-release fertilizer (SRF) with controlled water retention and release is particularly important. Slow-release fertilizer hydrogel (SRFH) has a three-dimensional (3D) network structure combined with fertilizer processing, displaying excellent hydrophilicity, biocompatibility and controllability. Cellulose has abundant hydroxyl groups as well as outstanding biodegradability and special mechanical properties, which make it a potential candidate material for the fabrication of hydrogels. This work would analyze and discuss various methods for preparing stimulus-responsive cellulose hydrogels and their combinations with different fertilizers. Moreover, the application and release mechanism of stimulus-responsive cellulose hydrogels in SRF have been summarized as well. Finally, we would explore the potential issues of stimulus-responsive cellulose hydrogels serving as an SRF, propose reasonable solutions and give an outlook of the future research directions.

Abstract Herein, an effective method of preparing CNT@NiM-OH nanocomposites by reacting dopamine-modified carbon nanotubes (CNT@PDA) with M(NO3)2 (M = Zn,Co) and 2-methylimidazole is reported. The research results show that CNTs are intertwined to form a network structure surrounded by NiM-OH in CNT@NiM-OH, which provides a more electrolyte contact area and reaction active sites. Electrochemical research indicates that CNT@NiM-OH exhibits excellent electrochemical properties for supercapacitors. The specific capacitances of CNT@NiCoZn-OH, CNT@NiZn-OH and CNT@NiCo-OH were 2039.63, 1930.03 and 1664.73 F/g, respectively, at 1 A/g. In addition, the specific capacitance retention rates of the three electrode materials after 1000 cycles were 97.7%, 99.0% and 85.4%, respectively. Graphical Abstract
