Upregulation of CD14 in mesenchymal stromal cells accelerates lipopolysaccharide-induced response and enhances antibacterial properties
Matthew P. Hirakawa,Nikki Tjahjono,Yooli Kim Light,Aleyna Celebi,Nisa Celebi,Prem Chintalapudi,Kimberly S. Butler,Steven S. Branda,Raga Krishnakumar +8 more
TL;DR: In this article , a system-based approach was used to compare MSCs from different genetic backgrounds that displayed differences in antibacterial activity and showed that overexpression of endogenous co-receptor CD14 can prime these cells to be more responsive to bacterial challenge.

Augmentation of Antibacterial Activity in Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Through Systems-Level Analysis and CRISPR-mediated Activation of CD14
Matthew P. Hirakawa,Nikki Tjahjono,Yooli Kim Light,Prem Chintalapudi,Kimberly S. Butler,Steven S. Branda,Raga Krishnakumar +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that systems-level analysis can reveal critical molecular targets to optimize desirable properties in MSCs, and that overexpression of CD14 in these cells can shift their state to be more responsive to future bacterial challenge.
