Synthesis and characterization of chitosan and silver loaded chitosan nanoparticles for bioactive polyester

Abstract In the past 10 years, ZnO as a semiconductor has attracted considerable attention due to its unique properties, such as high electron mobility, wide and direct band gap and large exciton binding energy. ZnO has been considered a promising material for optoelectronic device applications, and the fabrications of high quality p-type ZnO and p–n junction are the key steps to realize these applications. However, the reliable p-type doping of the material remains a major challenge because of the self-compensation from native donor defects (V O and Zn i ) and/or hydrogen incorporation. Considerable efforts have been made to obtain p-type ZnO by doping different elements with various techniques. Remarkable progresses have been achieved, both theoretically and experimentally. In this paper, we discuss p-type ZnO materials: theory, growth, properties and devices, comprehensively. We first discuss the native defects in ZnO. Among the native defects in ZnO, V Zn and O i act as acceptors. We then present the theory of p-type doping in ZnO, and summarize the growth techniques for p-type ZnO and the properties of p-type ZnO materials. Theoretically, the principles of selection of p-type dopant, codoping method and X Zn –2V Zn acceptor model are introduced. Experimentally, besides the intrinsic p-type ZnO grown at O-rich ambient, p-type ZnO (MgZnO) materials have been prepared by various techniques using Group-I, IV and V elements. We pay a special attention to the band gap of p-type ZnO by band-gap engineering and room temperature ferromagnetism observed in p-type ZnO. Finally, we summarize the devices based on p-type ZnO materials.

RaoP-Type ZnO Materials: Theory, Growth, Properties, and Devices

ZnNiCr-layered double hydroxides (ZnNiCr-LDHs) applied for Cr(VI) removal were designed and synthesized through the microwave hydrothermal method. When molar ratio of Zn2+/Ni2+ is 7:1 and (Zn2+, Ni2+)/Cr3+ is 3:1, the morphology of the as-prepared ZnNiCr-LDHs was irregular blocky structure, which comprised a flake structure. The specific surface area could reach 354.36 m2/g, providing rich adsorption sites for Cr(VI) adsorption. Adsorption experimental results suggested that ZnNiCr-LDHs possess a maximum adsorption capacity of 28.2 mg/g at pH = 2, which is larger than that of ZnCr-LDHs and NiCr-LDHs. The adsorption experiment conforms to the Langmuir monolayer adsorption model and the kinetic adsorption data are well fitted by the pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetic equation. The as-prepared ZnNiCr-LDHs have potential application prospects in the removal of Cr(VI) in wastewater. The ZnNiCr-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with excellent adsorption of Cr(VI) were synthesized via microwave hydrothermal method.

Synthesis and characterization of ZnNiCr-layered double hydroxides with high adsorption activities for Cr(VI)

In this study, Sericin/Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA)/Clay (Cloisite 30B) nanofibrous mats are prepared by electrospinning technique for antimicrobial air filtration mask. The process parameters of electro-spinning machine such as acceleration voltage, nozzle flow rate and nozzle & collector distance are optimised on the basis of morphology of fibre observed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The optimum conditions for producing nanofibrous mat without bead are acceleration voltage 27.5 kV, nozzle collector distance 8 cm and flow rate 0.8 ml/hr using 10 % (w/v) solution of Sericin/PVA (1:1 wt/wt). The process parameters of electro-spinning machine for the processing of Sericin/PVA/Clay nanofibrous mats with varied clay concentrations ranging from 0.1-0.75 % are also optimized. The spun fibre diameter varied from 300-400 nm at different specified conditions. These nanofibrous mats are characterized for its structural, mechanical and antimicrobial properties. Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM) test was conducted to check the particulate matter (PM 2.5) absorption capacity of nanofibrous mats. Results shows that sericin/PVA/clay nanofibrous mat would be a promising material for making protecting clothing based air filtration mask.

In this paper, ZnO/NiO composites rich in oxygen vacancies are prepared by the solvothermal method and reduction method. In the test, through the use of X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), we effectively prove the existence of phase, morphology and oxygen vacancies in the material. Through the photocatalysis test and gas sensitivity test, it is found that 10% Ni doped OZN-10 has the best photocatalytic activity and gas sensitivity characteristics. The degradation rate of methylene blue (MB) was 98%. The gas sensitivity test shows that OZN-10 has good selectivity, good response performance (3000 ppm, 27,887%) and excellent response recovery time (response time: 50 s, recovery time: 5–7 s) for saturated NH3 gas at standard atmospheric pressure (101.325 KPa) and room temperature (25 °C). The synergistic effect of oxygen vacancy as the center of a trap and p–n heterojunction forming an electric potential field at the interface is explained, and the mechanism of improving photocatalysis and gas sensitivity is analyzed. This work will provide an innovative vision for dual-performance oxygen vacancy modification of heterojunctions through photocatalysis.

Structural, Optoelectronic and Electrochemical Properties of Zn1-x(Ga0.5Al0.5)xO Nanoparticles for Supercapacitor Applications

Hexagonal wurtzite Zn1 − x(SiGa)x/2O (x = 0, 0.0156, 0.0234, and 0.0312) with a space group of P63mc was synthesized using the solgel method. Investigations of structural, optoelectronic, and photo-sensing study of these samples were performed. Improved crystallinity of the co-doped samples was observed from structural and vibrational studies. The effect of higher charges Ga3+ and Si4+ on various latent defects of ZnO was studied. A predominantly n-type carrier concentration was noticed in all samples. Enhancement in carrier concentration, mobility, and conductivity was observed in the Ga–Si co-doped samples. In this work, the impact of intrinsic defects on photosensing was also studied. UV (290 nm) and visible lights of different wavelengths, blue (450 nm), green (540 nm), and red (640 nm), were sensed. The sensitivity toward the above-mentioned wavelengths was compared for all the samples. Photocurrent was modified with the illumination wavelengths (290, 450, 540, and 640 nm) and also varied with co-doping. A correlation of structural, defect, and optoelectronic properties was discussed, which revealed improved photo-response currents for UV light and for the blue, green and red lights. It was observed that pure ZnO is more sensitive to UV light. However, higher substitution yields better sensitivity for red light. The same result was found for green and blue light sensing.
