Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are not new technologies. But several constraints prevented their actual adoption. Recent technological progresses added to the proliferation of affordable hardware and software have made AR and VR more viable and desirable in many domains, including educa-tion; they have been relaunched with new promises previously unimaginable. The nature of AR and VR promises new teaching and learning models that better meet the needs of the 21st century learner. We’re now on a path to re-invent education. 
This work consists of explaining the reasons behind the new rise of AR and VR and why their actual adoption in education will be a reality in a near fu-ture.

Technology in education can influence students to learn actively and can motivate them, leading to an effective process of learning Previous research has identified the problem that technology will create a passive learning process if the technology used does not promote critical thinking, meaning-making or metacognition Since its introduction, augmented reality (AR) has been shown to have good potential in making the learning process more active, effective and meaningful This is because its advanced technology enables users to interact with virtual and real-time applications and brings the natural experiences to the user In addition, the merging of AR with education has recently attracted research attention because of its ability to allow students to be immersed in realistic experiences Therefore, this concept paper reviews the research that has been conducted on AR The review describes the application of AR in a number of fields of learning including Medicine, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Biology, Astronomy and History This paper also discusses the advantages of AR compared to traditional technology (such as e-learning and courseware) and traditional teaching methods (chalk and talk and traditional books) The review of the results of the research shows that, overall, AR technologies have a positive potential and advantages that can be adapted in education The review also indicates the limitations of AR which could be addressed in future research

We investigate the combination of Augmented Reality (AR) with Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) to assist with training for manual assembly tasks Our approach combines AR graphics with adaptive guidance from the ITS to provide a more effective learning experience We have developed a modular software framework for intelligent AR training systems, and a prototype based on this framework that teaches novice users how to assemble a computer motherboard An evaluation found that our intelligent AR system improved test scores by 25 % and that task performance was 30 % faster compared to the same AR training system without intelligent support We conclude that using an intelligent AR tutor can significantly improve learning compared to more traditional AR training

Intelligent Augmented Reality Training for Motherboard Assembly

The purpose of this study was to determine the motivational level of the participants in a language classroom towards course materials designed in accordance with augmented reality technology and to identify the correlation between academic achievement and motivational level. 130 undergraduate students from a state-run university in Turkey participated in this study and Turkish version of Material Motivational Survey was used to determine the undergraduate students’ motivational level about the materials which were designed with AR technology to teach English words at the elementary level. The results of this study suggested that AR technology materials had positive impact on increasing undergraduate students’ motivation towards vocabulary learning in language classroom. This study also signified that a positive significant correlation was found between academic achievement and the motivation in the use of AR technology in language classroom.

This paper will emphasize on the advantages tangible interaction can bring to education. Augmented Chemistry provides an efficient way for designing and interacting with the molecules to understand the spatial relations between molecules. For Students it is very informative to see actual molecules representation 3D environment, inspect molecules from multiple viewpoints and control the interaction of molecules.We present in this paper an Augmented Reality system for teaching spatial relationships and chemical-reaction problem-solving skills to school-level students based on the VSEPR theory. Our system is based on inexpensive webcams and open-source software. We hope this willgenerate more ideas for educators and researcher to explore Augmented Reality technology in the field of interactive education.
