Listrik umumnya bersumber dari energi fosil yang merupakan sumber daya alam yang tidak dapat diperbaharui. Tingginya tingkat pemakaian energi yang tak terbarukan mendorong pencarian sumber energi alternatif baru. Salah satu teknologi yang dapat menjadi sumber energi alternatif baru adalah Microbial Fuel Cell. Microbial Fuel Cell adalah sistem yang memanfaatkan bakteri untuk mengoksidasi bahan organik dan anorganik. Teknologi tersebut dapat diaplikasikan pada limbah cair, misalnya limbah cair perikanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji kinerja penggunaan rangkaian seri bejana terhadap daya listrik yang dihasilkan limbah cair perikanan berdasar sistem Microbial Fuel Cell. Penelitian ini terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu pembuatan limbah cair buatan, pembuatan perangkat alat Microbial Fuel Cell, pengukuran daya listrik, dan analisis kualitas limbah cair. Hasil daya listrik selama 120 jam pengamatan adalah 0,115 V untuk dua bejana, 0,259 V untuk tiga bejana, dan 0,534 V untuk empat bejana yang seluruhnya dirangkaikan secara seri. Hasil uji beban limbah cair menunjukkan penurunan pada COD, BOD, TAN dan total nitrogen, sedangkan MLSS dan MLVSS mengalami peningkatan dalam lima hari pengamatan. Kinerja rangkaian seri sistem microbial fuel cell sebagai penghasil biolistrik dari limbah cair perikanan

Electricity source is generally from fossil energy that is natural resources and unrenewable. The use of non-renewable energy make us to find a new alternative energy. One of technologi which can make a new energy resource is Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC). Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) is a system which uses the bacterium to oxidize inorganic and organic matters. The technology can apply on wastewater, for example the wastewater of fisheries. The purpose of this research was to find electrical power results from the performance of series circuits on the fisheries wastewater treatment by MFC’s system. This research was done in four stages, those are artificial fisheries wastewater preparation, MFC’s instrument installation, electrical power measurements, and analysis of the fisheries wastewater quality. Electrical potential resulted during 120 hours observation were 0.115 V for two vessels, 0.259 V for three vessels, and 0.534 V for four vessels which all of vessels arranged into series circuits. The results test of fisheries wastewater showed reducing in COD, BOD, TAN and total nitrogen, while MLSS and MLVSS increased in five days observations.

Microcrystalline chitosan is a chitosan that has been modified by minimizing its particle size. Chitosan posses antibacterial property. The use of microcrystalline chitosan as an antibacterial in the mouthwash has not been revealed yet. This study was done to compare the degree  effectiveness of mouthwash that contain  microcrystalline chitosan as an antibacterial and commercial mouthwash. The parameters measured in this study were proximate analysis, yield, deacetylation (Fourier Transform Infrared), particle size (Scanning Electron Microscopy), and total plate count. Microcrystalline chitosan contained moisture, ash, nitrogen and yield were 3.92% dry weight basis (db); 4% db, 1.4% db; and 50% respectively. Detection results of FTIR and SEM showed the size of microcrystalline chitosan was 0.6-6μm and degree of deacetylation was 88.66%. Mouthwash that contained 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% microcrystalline chitosan could reduce TPC bacteria up to 97.57%, 99.05% and 99.46% respectively, while commercial mouthwash reduced TPC bacteria up to 89.70%. . Banjir Kanal Barat is a river in the Garang watershed, Semarang City, Central Java, Indonesia. Its function is as a source of water for the community. The level of pollution in this river is already high. The purpose of this study is to provide advice to governments, communities and related stakeholders to realize integrated river management, and fisheries-based food security is achieved. This research method is: analyzing the water quality of the Banjir Kanal Barat river, and analyzing the amount of faecal and total coliform bacteria content in the Banjir Kanal Barat river, and analyzing how to overcome the decline in the quality of waters of the Banjir Kanal Barat river due to faecal and total coliform bacteria pollution. The results showed that the water quality at the research location was still in the quality standard. The content of coliform dan faecal bacteria at the study site exceeds the quality standard, this is due to the influence of domestic waste from households. The thing that needs to be done is counseling the existence of a clean and healthy life, especially for people who are still throwing domestic waste into the river. The existence of water purification equipment is also very necessary to overcome this problem. Water quality management can be done with policy analysis. Regulations related to water quality management can be analyzed and then given solutions and recommendations related to these rules so that policies can be taken that are sustainable, integrated, and coordinated between various parties in managing river water quality and food security. Highly organic substances contained within fishery industrial wastewater will pollute the environment when it flows into public water body without any previous treatment. Chitosan is polymer substance extracted from shrimp shell which is able to wrap solid particles suspended in liquids and bring them together and agglomerate makes it suitable as a coagulant aid. The objective of this recsearch was to study the effectiveness of chitosan in order to decrease pollutant parameter in the fishery industrial wastewater. The quality of chitosan used during this research confirmed to Protan Laboratory standard. Results showed that chitosan as a coagulant has good performance in pH range of 6.6-6.8 and at concentration of 175-225 ppm. Within these conditions, chitosan could decrease turbidity value 94.33%-95.17%, TSS (Total Suspended Solids) 95.10%-95.82%, BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) 72.09%-79%, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) 76.72%-79.40%, TKN (Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen) 12.50%-27.82%, NH3 80.84%-82.56%, NO2-N 47.69%-54.74%, NO3-N 19.39%-40.14%. The best chitosan concentration to use was at 200 ppm. The quality of effluent produced confirmed to Standard Regulation Indonesian Ministry of Environmental for Standard of Industrial Wastewater no.:KEP-51/MENLH/10/1995.
