Urban heat island effect: A systematic review of spatio-temporal factors, data, methods, and mitigation measures

In this research paper we present a mathematical model for COVID-19 in high-risk settings and low-risk settings which might be infection dynamics between hotspots and less risky communities. The main idea was to couple the SIR model with alternating risk levels from the two different settings high and low-risk settings. Therefore, building from this model we partition the infected class into two categories, the symptomatic and the asymptomatic. Using this approach we simulated COVID-19 dynamics in low and high-risk settings with auto- switching risk settings. Again, the model was analyzed using both analytic methods and numerical methods. The results of this study suggest that switching risk levels in different settings plays a pivotal role in COVID-19 progression dynamics. Hence, population reaction time to adhere to preventative measures and interventions ought to be implemented with flash speed targeting first the high-risk setting while containing the dynamics in low-risk settings.

Coumarin-containing supramolecular medicinal agents as a new increasing expansion of supramolecular chemistry in pharmaceutical science have also been actively investigated in recent years. Coumarin-derived artificial ion receptors, fluorescent probes and biological stains are growing quickly and have a variety of potential applications in monitoring timely enzyme activity, complex biological events as well as accurate pharmacological and pharmacokinetic properties. This review provides a systematic summary and insight of the whole range of medicinal chemistry in the current developments of coumarin compounds as anticoagulant, antineurodegenerative, anticancer, antioxidative, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, antiinflammatory and analgesic, antidiabetic, antidepressive and other bioactive agents as well as supramolecular medicinal drugs, diagnostic agents and pathologic probes, and biological stains. Some rational design strategies, structure-activity relationships and action mechanisms are discussed. The perspectives of the future development of coumarinbased medicinal chemistry are also presented.

Influences of urban spatial form on urban heat island effects at the community level in China

Impact of land use change and urbanization on urban heat island in Lucknow city, Central India. A remote sensing based estimate

The aim of the present work was to determine the effects of long-term changes in land use/land cover (LULC) on surface and groundwater resources of quaternary aquifers in the Lucknow area of the Ganga plain, based on the analysis of multi-temporal satellite and field survey data. Changes in LULC for the period of 2008 and 2016 were mapped using Landsat-7 and Landsat-8 satellite data by applying hybrid image classification techniques. Hydro-geomorphic feature mapping for 2008 and 2016 was also carried out to monitor changes in important surface and subsurface hydro-geomorphic features of the area such as paleochannels, cut-off meanders, oxbow lakes, meander scars, flood plains and younger alluvial plain, and observation found that a decreasing trend in most features. Groundwater level data of selected wells for 2008 and 2016 were used to analyze the trend in groundwater level depletion and its relation with land use change and hydro-geomorphic features. In general, the observations from the present study clearly indicate that large-scale changes in groundwater reservoirs has been taken place due to changes in LULC, hydro-geomorphic features and extensive groundwater exploration practices over the past decade. The results show 4.09% increase in built-up land, 5.49% increase in open area, 8.80% decrease in vegetation cover, 2.31% decrease in agricultural land and 0.35% decrease in surface water bodies. The results observed through monitoring of LULC change, along with water level dynamics of the area, provide scientific data base for the protection, governance and decision-making for water resources management.

A Comparative Study of Spatial Interpolation Technique (IDW and Kriging) for Determining Groundwater Quality

A novel series of 2-amino-4-(coumarin-3-yl)-6-substituted phenyl pyrimidines (5a–h) were synthesized from 3-acetylcoumarin (3). The structures of the synthesized compounds were elucidated by I.R., 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and Mass spectroscopic techniques. The synthesized compounds were screened for in vivo analgesic activities at a dose of 20 mg/kg body weight (b.w). Among them, compounds 5b and 5h exhibited significant analgesic activity comparable with control as well as standard drug diclofenac sodium using acetic acid-induced writhing model.

Analgesic study of novel pyrimidine derivatives linked with coumarin moiety

Abstract Rapid urbanization and land use transformation coupled with climate change impact are witnessed for development urban heat island worldwide and make it major environmental concerns for human health. National Capital Region (NCR) is one of the fast sprawling National Capital city of India. The aim of the present study is to explore the spatial changes in major biophysical parameters of city over last 20 years from 2000 to 2020 using satellite data. The spatial variation in the land surface temperature and its relation with Land use, NDVI and Built-up area were evaluated and discussed in the present work. The major changes were observed in minimum and maximum temperature of the city, in 2000 minimum temperature was 23.20 °C and maximum 34.85 °C, which increased to 26.31 and 39.92 °C in 2010; and 31.70 to 44.74 °C in 2020 . Normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) decrease from 82 to 62%, Non-Vegetated area has reduced to 62% from 82% due to fast urbanization and land transformation in last two decades. Barren and fallow land also reduces about 27% in last two decades and built-up area also shown increasing trend . The spatial changes in biophysical parameter of the city clearly indicated that NDVI, NDBI and Land use/land cover charges are the main driving forces for development of urban heat island in the city and many health issues related to heat waves are already reported in the city along with many other negative impacts on natural landscape and resources. The observations from present work will be very useful scientific information to understand the causes of elevated land surface temperature and mitigation measures. Results could be used by policy makers to develop the suitable model for long term sustainability of the cities.
