In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy-neural-network (AFNN) control using nonsingular terminal sliding mode control is proposed for active power filter (APF) as a current controller to attenuate the effect of unknown external disturbances and modeling uncertainties. First, the dynamic model for APF is built in which both the system parameter variations and external disturbance are considered. Then, a nonsingular terminal sliding mode control based on the backstepping (NTSMB) approach is presented for the current control system to solve singularity point problem and realize the fast and finite-time convergence. Moreover, AFNN is designed to relax the requirement of the prior knowledge of system parameters to improve the robustness of NTSMB. In the AFNN strategy, AFNN framework is designed to mimic the NTSMB, where the parameters are adjusted online by the adaptive law derived from the projection algorithm and the Lyapunov stability analysis, to guarantee tracking performance and stability of the closed-loop system. Simulation studies demonstrate that the proposed control methods exhibit excellent performance in both steady-state and transient operation compared to traditional sliding mode control. Experimental results are provided using a fully digital control system in order to validate the performance of the proposed controller.

Finite-Time Adaptive Fuzzy-Neural-Network Control of Active Power Filter

With the wide application of non-linear loads and the large-scale access of distributed energy generations based on power electronics equipments, power quality problems in the distribution network are increasingly serious with new characteristics. Further in-depth research is of great significance in theory and practice. This paper provides an overview of power quality analysis, compensators, and control technologies under the new situation of smart grid. It focuses on the topologies and control methods for power quality conditioners, especially new characteristics of power quality and applicable control technologies in microgrids and distributed power plants. Finally, trends and prospects of power quality control technology are introduced, which is important to achieve security and efficient operation of the smart grid.

Overview of power quality analysis and control technology for the smart grid

A universal controller is proposed in this article to operate parallel inverters in both grid-connected (GC) state and standalone (SA) state and ensure seamless transfer between them without reconfiguring the control structure. The universal controller is mainly composed of frequency-locked-loop and three cascaded control loops: a grid current loop, capacitor voltage loop, and inductor current loop. A proportional-integral regulator is adopted in the grid current loop, and a limiter is inserted after the integrator. In the GC state, the proposed controller accurately regulates the grid current of an individual inverter. When islanding occurs, the proposed controller can automatically convert from grid current control to $v_{C}\hbox{--} i_{g}$ -based droop control; critical islanding detection is not needed. This universal controller has several advantages. First, it can realize seamless transfer of parallel inverters; microgrid reliability can be guaranteed in the SA state, and power sharing can be achieved among parallel inverters without communication lines. Second, compared with droop control, it can regulate the grid current accurately and output constant power when the grid voltage fluctuates in the GC state. Third, the grid current harmonics in the GC state and capacitor voltage harmonics in the SA state can be mitigated. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the controller.

A Universal Controller Under Different Operating States for Parallel Inverters With Seamless Transfer Capability

Aiming at the question of parameter of double-tuned filter, A new method of designing double-tuned filter is proposed based on resonance frequency, by using the relationship that the impedance of double-tund filter and two parallel single tuned filters is equal and the resonance frequency of single tuned filter is the zero of the impedance of double-tuned filter. Simulation results show that the double- tuned filter designed in this method works well. All of this has an important guiding significance for the research of double- tuned filter.

A New Method of Designing Double-tuned Filter

The fluctuations of reactive load in micro-grid will have a great impact on the supply voltage. In this paper, a novel grid-connection control is proposed in view of this problem, based on a model of a PV system with load paralleled in large system. It can not only make full use of photovoltaic power, but also maintain a stable voltage with a fluctuant reactive load. It adopted double-loop principle in inverter control. The grid-connected current of the PV system and the current of large system are both decoupled into active and reactive component by abc/dq0 transformation to achieve the independent control of active and reactive power. On the one hand, the active component of the PV grid-connected current is adjusted to the reference value given by the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) in order to maintain maximum active power output of PV, the reactive component of the large system current is adjusted in order to maintain a constant reactive power output. Thus a stable supply voltage can be maintained with a fluctuant reactive load, as the supply voltage of the grid-connected PV system is mainly sustained by the large system. On the other hand;the main circuit topology of three-phase reactive power compensation device and three-phase grid-connected inverter is exactly the same. Thus, in support of a reasonable control strategy it can be integrated together with both function of grid connection and reactive power compensation control. These can ensure a stable voltage in the PV system with a fluctuant reactive load paralleled in large system by the regulation of power. Its advantages compared with the simple and traditional unity-power-factor inverter control scheme are validated by simulation with Matlab/Simulink.

A grid-connection control scheme of PV system with fluctuant reactive load

This paper presents a new method for harmonic and reactive power compensation with an artificial neural network(ANN) controller and a new control algorithm for active power filter (APF) to eliminate harmonics and compensate the reactive power of three-phase thyristor bridge rectifier. The artificial neural network (ANN) current controller is adapted to active power filter (APF) and the current controller based on hysteresis current controller is used to generate the firing pulses. All of the studies have been carried out through detail digital dynamic simulation using the MATLAB Simulink Power System Toolbox. The results of simulation study of new APF control technique presented in this paper are found quite satisfactory to eliminate harmonics and reactive power components from utility current.
