Synthesis of high-quality carbon nanodots from hydrophilic compounds: role of functional groups
Pin-Che Hsu,Huan-Tsung Chang +1 more
TL;DR: It is found that the compounds incorporating amino and carboxylic acid groups are suitable for the preparation of highly photoluminescent and water-soluble C-dots.

Synthesis and analytical applications of photoluminescent carbon nanodots
TL;DR: In this paper, a simple approach for the preparation of carbon nanodots (C-dots) from coffee grounds was developed. But the method was not suitable for the extraction of C-Dots for cell imaging and surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization-mass spectrometry of angiotensin I and insulin.

Extremely high inhibition activity of photoluminescent carbon nanodots toward cancer cells.
TL;DR: To the best of the authors' knowledge, for the first time the C-dots provide inhibition efficiencies up to 80% and 82% for MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cells, respectively, showing their high potential as cancer inhibitors.

Photoluminescent organosilane-functionalized carbon dots as temperature probes
TL;DR: Through Si-O-Si bonding, temperature-sensitive PL SiC-dot films could be easily fabricated on glass substrates and revealed a reversible response toward the temperature.

Synthesis and catalysis of copper sulfide/carbon nanodots for oxygen reduction in direct methanol fuel cells
TL;DR: In this paper, the first time that Cu2−xS/C dot nanomaterials (NMs) were proposed to be used as a cathode catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acidic media, the structural characterizations revealed that the NMs possessed two types of crystalline phases, such as Cu9S5 and Cu2S in the structure of NMs, revealing a good ORR activity of these NMs.
