Individuals with depressive symptoms are vulnerable to COVID-19 infection and mortality; therefore, their vaccination status must be investigated to reduce these rates. This study investigated the association between depressive symptoms and COVID-19 vaccine uptake and intention and identified the reasons for vaccine avoidance. Data were collected from the 2021 Korea Community Health Survey and analyzed using logistic regression. A statistically significant association was found between the presence of depressive symptoms and no COVID-19 vaccine uptake. Among individuals who reported experiencing depression, 4.6% were unvaccinated and 7.7% reported no intention to get vaccinated. Among the unvaccinated, the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) for depression was 1.53 (95% confidence interval: 1.45–1.61) compared to the vaccinated. Similarly, a significant association was observed between depressive symptoms and no intention to get vaccinated. In the group with no vaccine intention, the aOR for depression was 2.06 (95% CI: 1.86–2.27) compared to the group with vaccine intention. Furthermore, “health-related reasons” and “concerns about side effects or past experience of side effects” accounted for 89% of the reasons for vaccine avoidance among individuals with depression. Therefore, it is important to provide tailored information and develop programs to increase awareness and promote COVID-19 vaccine uptake among these individuals.

The Relationship between Depression and COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake and Intention among Korean Adults: The 2021 Community Health Survey

Background: This study aimed to verify the influence of parental stress on depression among single parents with preschool children during the COVID-19 pandemic and the moderating effect of self-rated health status.Methods: The study conducted regression analyses with a sample of 335 single parents raising children under seven years old from the raw data of the Study on the Status of Sole-parent Families conducted by the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in 2021.Results: Single parents’ parenting stress had a positive and significant influence on their depression, moderated by their self-rated health status. That is, the influence of parenting stress on depression was more pronounced for parents who rated their health status as not good compared with those who rated their health status as good.Conclusions: Based on the findings, the discussion suggested interventions for dealing with depression among single parents with preschool children.

Influence of Parenting Stress on Depression among Single Parents with Preschool Children during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of Self-rated Health Status

This is a descriptive research study that examines the daily life restrictions caused by COVID-19 in adults over the age of 19 years. Data pertaining to health-related factors, and physical and mental health of 223,991 people was procured from the Korea Community Health Survey 2021. Daily life restrictions due to demographic characteristics were determined by applying Chi-Square and logistic regression analyses using SPSS 23.0. Results show that 24.1% of adults said they had daily life restrictions. Women, sales service workers, other groups, drinking groups, and people with depression responded that they had more daily life restrictions. The factors affecting daily life restriction were further examined by gender. In men, age, occupation, smoking, diabetes, obesity, and depression affected the restriction of daily life, whereas age, education, occupation, exercise, drinking, smoking, and depression were the influential factors among women. This study is meaningful in that it investigated the daily life restrictions caused by COVID-19 in Korean adults using the Korea Community Health Survey. However, there is a limit to confirming the context of daily life restrictions and their influencing factors. The results of this study can be used as basic data when developing various health-related programs.

Factors affecting daily life restrictions due to COVID-19 : Based on the Korea Community Health Survey 2021

Objectives: This study analyzed and identified factors related to the changes of the daily life, such as the health behavior, the number of meetings, and the use of public transportation during the COVID-19. Methods: A total of 133,707 people out of 229,269 adults aged 19 years or older in Community Health Survey 2020 were analyzed in terms of the daily life changes, including the demographic characteristics, health status, health behavior, mental health, and chronic disease. The multi-variable linear regression analysis was conducted with the considerable variables extracted from the stepwise selection. Results: It was found that age, sex, household type, job, household income, education level, subjective health status, breakfast, stress level, depression, hypertension, and diabetes are related to the changes of the daily life during the COVID-19. In particular, the age of 30s and 40s, women, second generation, white-collar worker, high income, well educated, worse subjective health status, skipping breakfast, high stress and depression factors were closely related to the negative changes of daily life during the COVID-19. Conclusions: The negative changes of daily life during the COVID-19 were more likely to occur in the group of the age of 30s and 40s, women, with high socioeconomic status, with worse health status, with worse health behaviors and with worse mental health.
