The effectiveness and patient comfort of the novel streamlined pharynx airway liner (SLIPA) compared with the conventional laryngeal mask airway in ophthalmic surgery.
Markus Lange,Thorsten M. Smul,Peter Zimmermann,Rudolf Kohlenberger,Norbert Roewer,Franz Kehl +5 more
TL;DR: The SLIPA® is a useful alternative to the conventional laryngeal mask airway in patients undergoing minor surgery, however, it is associated with a higher incidence of gastric air insufflation, which may increase the risk of aspiration.

Echocardiographic monitoring during induction of general anesthesia with a miniaturized esophageal probe.
Peter Zimmermann,Clemens Greim,Herbert Trautner,Ulrich Sagmeister,Katharina Kraemer,Norbert Roewer +5 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that it is feasible and generally safe to introduce a miniaturized transesophageal echocardiography probe transnasally in awake cardiac risk patients to monitor cardiac performance during the induction of general anesthesia.

The detection of interatrial flow patency in awake and anesthetized patients: a comparative study using transnasal transesophageal echocardiography.
C. A. Greim,Herbert Trautner,Katharina Krämer,Peter Zimmermann,Christian C. Apfel,Norbert Roewer +5 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that a peak pressure of 30 cm H2O during the ventilation maneuver achieves a more pronounced reduction in right atrial load and allows right atrian pressure to exceed left atrial pressure when intrathoracic pressure is released.
