Ciprofloxacin for 2 or 4 Weeks in the Treatment of Febrile Urinary Tract Infection in Men: A Randomized Trial with a 1 Year Follow-up
Peter Ulleryd,Torsten Sandberg +1 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that a 2 week course of ciprofloxacin may be adequate for febrile UTI in men.

Phylogenetic and Pathotypic Comparison of Concurrent Urine and Rectal Escherichia coli Isolates from Men with Febrile Urinary Tract Infection
James R. Johnson,Flemming Scheutz,Peter Ulleryd,Michael A. Kuskowski,Michael A. Kuskowski,Timothy T. O’Bryan,Torsten Sandberg +6 more
TL;DR: These findings challenge the fecal-urethral and prevalence hypotheses for FUTI pathogenesis and instead strongly support the possibility of alternate infection routes in some men and the special pathogenicity hypothesis and identify specific bacterial traits as potential targets for anti-FUTI interventions.

Urine culture doubtful in determining etiology of diffuse symptoms among elderly individuals: a cross-sectional study of 32 nursing homes
TL;DR: Urinary cultures provide little or no useful information when evaluating diffuse symptoms among elderly residents of nursing homes and either common urinary tract pathogens are irrelevant, or urine culture is an inappropriate test.

Febrile urinary tract infection in men.
TL;DR: Contrary to the traditional view, men and women with febrile UTI have very similar infecting bacterial species, host predispositions and treatment results, however, virulence expression differs in the infecting Escherichia coli in both sexes.

Interleukin-6 concentrations in the urine and dipstick analyses were related to bacteriuria but not symptoms in the elderly: a cross sectional study of 421 nursing home residents
Pär-Daniel Sundvall,Marie Elm,Peter Ulleryd,Sigvard Mölstad,Nils Rodhe,Lars Jonsson,Bengt Andersson,Mirjana Hahn-Zoric,Ronny Gunnarsson,Ronny Gunnarsson +9 more
TL;DR: This study could not establish any clinical value of using dipstick urinalysis or IL-6 in the urine to verify if bacteriuria was linked to nonspecific symptoms, and it is unlikely that symptoms among elderly residents of nursing homes are unlikely to be caused by bacteria inThe urine.
