Minimal effect of delayed sample processing on results of quantitative PCR for cytomegalovirus DNA in leukocytes compared to results of an antigenemia assay.
TL;DR: Quantitative cytomegalovirus antigenemia and DNAemia were determined in peripheral leukocytes of 25 patients stored for up to 72 h at room temperature and 4 degrees C before processing, and numbers of antigen-positive cells significantly decreased with time.

Epidemiological Dynamics of Hepatitis C Virus among 747 German Individuals: New Subtypes on the Advance
Matthias Schröter,B. Zöllner,Peter Schäfer,Andreas Reimer,Matthias Müller,R. Laufs,H H Feucht +6 more
TL;DR: Evidence is presented that the subtypes observed among younger patients can spread rapidly and lead to significant changes in the subtype distribution.

Matthias A. Horstkotte,Ingo Sobottka,Carl K. Schewe,Peter Schäfer,Rainer Laufs,Sabine Rüsch-Gerdes,Stefan Niemann +6 more
TL;DR: A rare case of Mycobacterium microti infection in a human immunodeficiency virus-positive patient is described and the pathogen was analyzed by spoligotyping and identified as the microti llama type.
High percentage of seronegative HCV infections in hemodialysis patients: the need for PCR.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that in hemodialysis patients PCR is necessary for the diagnosis of HCV infection.

Reconstitution of 3′ end processing of mammalian pre-mRNA reveals a central role of RBBP6
Moritz Schmidt,F Kluge,Felix Sandmeir,Uwe Kühn,Peter Schäfer,Christian Tüting,Christian Ihling,Elena Conti,Elmar Wahle +8 more
TL;DR: Here, Schmidt et al. reconstituted the endonucleolytic cleavage of an extended precursor followed by the addition of a poly(A) tail reaction from overproduced and purified proteins, and provide a minimal list of 14 polypeptides that are essential and two that are stimulatory for RNA processing.
