Impact characteristics of hailstones simulating ingestion by turbofan aeroengines
H. Pan,Peter M. Render +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of hailstones on turbofan engines was studied experimentally using two techniques, patternator and still photography, and a parametric study was carried out, and the parameters investigated included impact angle, approach speed, and initial size of simulated hailstone.

Landing Site Reachability in a Forced Landing of Unmanned Aircraft in Wind
TL;DR: In this article, a forced-landing system, which reacts appropriately to an engine failure, is proposed for the safe operation of unmanned aircraft systems. This system is based on an autonomous contingency management system, such as a forced landing system.
Development of an autopilot system for rapid prototyping of high level control algorithms
Matthew Coombes,Owen McAree,Wen-Hua Chen,Peter M. Render +3 more
- 01 Jan 2012
TL;DR: The development of a system for the rapid prototyping of high level control algorithms using an Arduino based commercial off the shelf autopilot called ArduPilot, capable of controlling multiple vehicle types, as well as ground vehicles, is described.
Site Selection During Unmanned Aerial System Forced Landings Using Decision-Making Bayesian Networks
TL;DR: This is a technical note published in the Journal of Aerospace Information Systems about the design and construction of space weather balloons for use in mid-air refuelling.
