AN ANALYSIS OF TED ENGSTROM’S PHILOSOPHY AND PRACTICE OF EXCELLENCE AND MENTORING Benjamin Paul Dockery, Ph.D. The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2015 Chair: Dr. Michael S. Wilder The research begins by raising questions surrounding a distinctively Christian approach to leadership. Specifically, this dissertation introduces the challenge of emphasizing both leadership excellence and leadership development in the life of a Christian leader. Next, Ted Engstrom is introduced as the key subject under analysis who provides a gateway into these leadership challenges. The thesis of the dissertation argues for the necessary wedding of these two leadership principles, excellence and mentoring, as evidenced in the life and writings of Engstrom and supported with biblical and theological argumentation. In order to make this case, the research considers the six decades of Engstrom’s ministry in the context of American Evangelicalism, and, more specifically, demonstrates his influence at Zondervan Publishing, Youth for Christ, World Vision, and organizational consulting. Additionally, Engstrom’s written contribution to the areas of excellence and mentoring are framed within his broader contributions in the following fields: organizational leadership, time management, personal integrity, and board management. Next, this dissertation outlines Engstrom’s understanding of excellence and builds out a supplemental account of excellence using biblical and theological support. Similarly, this dissertation provides an extended analysis of mentoring that starts with Engstrom’s account and extends to the biblical models and theological foundations. Before concluding, this research also argues that Engstrom is a leader worthy of imitation by summarizing personal interviews with those Engstrom formally and informally mentored. The conclusions supports an emphasis on excellence that requires mentoring while simultaneously holding to an emphasis on mentoring that demands excellence. In conclusion, the argument interacts with recognized experts in the field of leadership to draw implications for Christian leaders in the twenty-first century. The hopeful outcome is a renewed equilibrium between excellence and mentoring as hallmark traits of Christian leadership. An Analysis of Ted Engstrom’s Philosophy and Practice of Excellence and Mentoring

Sedlakova and Trachsel present an analysis regarding the evaluation of a new therapeutic technology, namely conversational artificial intelligence (CAI) in psychotherapy. They suggest that CAI cannot be treated as an equal partner in the therapeutic conversation, because it is not a moral agent. I agree that CAI is not a moral agent. However, I believe that CAI lacks at least five basic attributes or abilities (phenomenal consciousness, intentionality, ethical reflection, prudence, conscience) that would allow it to be defined as a moral agent. It seems that the ethical assessment of the possibilities, limitations, benefits and risks associated with the use of CAI in psychotherapy requires a determination of what CAI is in its moral nature. In this paper, I attempt to show that CAI is devoid of essential moral elements and hence cannot be treated as a moral agent.

Five reasons why a conversational artificial intelligence cannot be treated as a moral agent in psychotherapy

The ultimate goal of human activity is to become successful and important person in one's chosen field. It is impossible to do so without realizing that you are a strong person, strong enough to influence others. However, human will is not just limited to dominating others; it can also cultivate harmonious relationships and coordination in ways that exclude jealousy, mistrust, envy, and disagreement between "Me" and "others". It's in this context that the issue of a proper relationship between a leader and employees is reviewed. Large companies value proper behavioral culture and provide guidelines that the management and higher ranking personnel must take into account. There are norms of behavior not only for employees, but also for leaders. Objectives: Investigating attitudes of leaders and employees. Methods/Approach: Scientific analysis methods such as deduction, analysis and synthesis, analyzing graphic data, dynamic research, forecasting, and others. Results: As a result of the main analysis of the study the ethical issues surrounding business relationship. Opportunism as a business issue is addressed in economics and marketing literature as an important factor in transaction cost analysis and market governance. Management and business ethics scholars, however, do not address this issue in depth, Conclusions: The Company needs a good market reputation, which first and foremost depends on its leadership.

The contribution of Greece to the history of Western civilization is visible today in a wide array of subjects such as architecture, history, geography, literature, logic, mathematics, medicine, music, philosophy, and physics. Greek law, conversely, appears to have been a “law without legacy”. In fact, there were no equivalents to the Roman jurisconsults and praetors in the different Greek city-states, where a science of law in its own right and with its own discrete object of cognition (Erkenntnisobjekt) never came into existence. The very notion of ius (in the sense of derecho, direito, droit, diritto, Recht) was strange to the Greek mind and Athenians were actually very suspicious about the dangers to democracy and justice that the existence of a class of citizens versed in the law would pose to the city.

In this follow up to The Eudemian Ethics of Aristotle, Peter L. P. Simpson centers his attention on the basics of Aristotelian moral doctrine as found in the Great Ethics the definition of happiness, the nature and kind of the virtues, pleasure, and friendship. This work's authenticity is disputed, but Simpson argues that all the evidence favors it. Unlike the Nicomachean and Eudemian Ethics, Aristotle wrote the Great Ethics for a popular audience. It gives us insight less into Aristotle the theoretician than into Aristotle the pedagogue. For this reason, the Great Ethics has distinct advantages as an introduction to Aristotelian ethical thinking: it is simpler and clearer in its argumentation, matters such as the intellectual virtues are made suitably secondary to the practical focus, the moral virtues come through with a pleasing directness, and the work's syllogistic formalism gives it a transparency and accessibility that the other Ethics typically lack. Arius' Epitome, which relies heavily on this work, helps confirm its value and authenticity. Because the Great Ethics is generally neglected by scholars, less has been done to clear up its obscurities or to expose its structure. But to ignore it is to lose another and more instructive way of approaching and appreciating Aristotle's teaching. The translation is prefaced by an analytic outline of the whole, and the several sections of it are prefaced by brief summaries. The commentary supplies fuller descriptions and analyses, sorting out puzzles, removing misunderstandings, and resolving doubts of meaning and intention. This book is a fresh rendition of the work of the preeminent philosopher of all time.
