An ocular glymphatic clearance system removes β-amyloid from the rodent eye.
Xiaowei Wang,Xiaowei Wang,Nanhong Lou,Allison Eberhardt,Yujia Yang,Peter Kusk,Qiwu Xu,Benjamin Förstera,Sisi Peng,Meng Shi,Antonio Ladron-de-Guevara,Christine Delle,Björn Sigurdsson,Anna L.R. Xavier,Ali Ertürk,Richard T. Libby,Lu Chen,Alexander S. Thrane,Alexander S. Thrane +18 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that, in rodents, the removal of fluid and metabolites from the intraocular space occurs through a glymphatic pathway that might be impaired in glaucoma.
A mesothelium divides the subarachnoid space into functional compartments
Kjeld Møllgård,Felix R. M. Beinlich,Peter Kusk,L.M. Miyakoshi,Christine Delle,Virginia Plá,Natalie L. Hauglund,Tina Esmail,Martin Kaag Rasmussen,Ryszard Gomolka,Yuki Mori,M. Nedergaard +11 more
TL;DR: This paper showed the existence of a fourth meningeal layer called the subarachnoid lymphatic-like membrane (SLYM), which is morpho and immunophenotypically similar to the mesothelial membrane lining of peripheral organs and body cavities, and it encases blood vessels and harbors immune cells.

Astrocytic chloride is brain state dependent and modulates inhibitory neurotransmission in mice
Verena Untiet,Felix R. M. Beinlich,Peter Kusk,Ning Kang,Antonio Ladrón-de-Guevara,Wei Song,Celia Kjaerby,Mie Andersen,Natalie L. Hauglund,Björn Sigurdsson,Sai-Yue Deng,Hajime Hirase,N. Caesar Petersen,Alexei Verkhratsky,M. Nedergaard +14 more
TL;DR: In this article , the role of astrocytes in regulating excitatory-inhibitory balance in the central nervous system (CNS) has been investigated and it has been shown that they serve as a dynamic source of extracellular chloride for GABAergic transmission in awake mice.

Adrenergic inhibition facilitates normalization of extracellular potassium after cortical spreading depolarization.
Hiromu Monai,Shinnosuke Koketsu,Yoshiaki Shinohara,Yoshiaki Shinohara,Takatoshi Ueki,Peter Kusk,Natalie L. Hauglund,Andrew J. Samson,Hajime Hirase +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, pan-inhibition of adrenergic receptors (AdRs) facilitates the normalization of extracellular potassium after acute photothrombotic stroke in mice.
Age- and glaucoma-induced changes to the ocular glymphatic system
Xiaowei Wang,Christine Delle,Weiguo Peng,Virginia Plá,Michael Giannetto,Peter Kusk,Björn Sigurdsson,Shinya Sakurai,Amanda Sweeney,Qian Sun,Ting Du,Richard T. Libby,M. Nedergaard +12 more
TL;DR: In the DBA/2 J model of glaucoma, a pathological increase of glymphatic fluid transport to the anterior optic nerve that was associated with dilation of the perivascular spaces is found, indicating that aging and glau coma have fundamentally different effects on ocular glymphatics fluid transport.
