Secondary Effects of Catalytic Diesel Particulate Filters: Conversion of PAHs versus Formation of Nitro-PAHs
Norbert V. Heeb,Peter Schmid,Martin Kohler,Erika Gujer,Markus Zennegg,Daniela Wenger,Adrian Wichser,Andrea Ulrich,Urs Gfeller,Peter Honegger,Kerstin Zeyer,Lukas Emmenegger,Jean-Luc Petermann,Jan Czerwinski,Thomas Mosimann,Markus Kasper,Andreas Mayer +16 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that both DPFs detoxified diesel exhaust with respect to total aryl hydrocarbons, including the investigated carcinogenic PAHs, but the authors also noticed a secondary formation of selected nitro-PAHs.

Bioethanol Blending Reduces Nanoparticle, PAH, and Alkyl- and Nitro-PAH Emissions and the Genotoxic Potential of Exhaust from a Gasoline Direct Injection Flex-Fuel Vehicle
María Isabel Vera Muñoz,Norbert V. Heeb,Regula Haag,Peter Honegger,Kerstin Zeyer,Joachim Mohn,Pierre Comte,Jan Czerwinski +7 more
TL;DR: Emissions of a flex-fuel Euro-5 GDI vehicle operated with gasoline and two ethanol/gasoline blends are compared and Ethanol blending appears to reduce genotoxic emissions on this specific flex- fuel G DI vehicle; however, other GDI vehicles types should be analyzed.

Secondary effects of catalytic diesel particulate filters: copper-induced formation of PCDD/Fs.
Norbert V. Heeb,Markus Zennegg,Erika Gujer,Peter Honegger,Kerstin Zeyer,Urs Gfeller,Adrian Wichser,Martin Kohler,Peter Schmid,Lukas Emmenegger,Andrea Ulrich,Daniela Wenger,Jean-Luc Petermann,Jan Czerwinski,Thomas Mosimann,Markus Kasper,Andreas Mayer +16 more
TL;DR: The copper-catalyzed DPF system was not approved for workplace applications, whereas the iron system fulfilled all the specifications of the Swiss procedures for DPF approval (VERT).

Reactive nitrogen compounds (RNCs) in exhaust of advanced PM–NOx abatement technologies for future diesel applications
Norbert V. Heeb,Yan Zimmerli,Jan Czerwinski,Peter Schmid,Markus Zennegg,Regula Haag,Cornelia Seiler,Adrian Wichser,Andrea Ulrich,Peter Honegger,Kerstin Zeyer,Lukas Emmenegger,Thomas Mosimann,Markus Kasper,Andreas Mayer +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of a urea-based selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system on reactive nitrogen compounds (RNCs) and particulate matter (PM) emissions are discussed and quantified the highly reactive intermediates isocyanic acid (HNCO) and ammonia (NH 3 ), both potential secondary pollutants of the ureabased SCR chemistry.

Co-formation and co-release of genotoxic PAHs, alkyl-PAHs and soot nanoparticles from gasoline direct injection vehicles
María Isabel Vera Muñoz,Regula Haag,Peter Honegger,Kerstin Zeyer,Joachim Mohn,Pierre Comte,Jan Czerwinski,Norbert V. Heeb +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a fleet of 7 Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) vehicles with Euro-3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8.1, 9.6, 0.02 and 0.2 µg/μg/km−1 emissions were tested in the cold worldwide harmonized light vehicle test cycle.
