Lignin-derived electrospun freestanding carbons as alternative electrodes for redox flow batteries
Maria Crespo Ribadeneyra,Lia Grogan,Heather Au,Philipp Schlee,Philipp Schlee,Servann Herou,Servann Herou,Tobias P. Neville,Patrick L. Cullen,Matt D. R. Kok,Omid Hosseinaei,Sverker Danielsson,Per Tomani,Magdalena Titirici,Dan J. L. Brett,Paul R. Shearing,Rhodri Jervis,Ana Belen Jorge +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the use of electrospun freestanding carbon materials derived from lignin as alternative sustainable electrodes for all-vanadium flow batteries was proposed, and the results showed that the carbon electrodes exhibited higher activity towards the VO2+/VO2+ reaction than commercial carbon papers when tested in a three-electrode electrochemical cell or half-cell.

Integration of lignin removal into a kraft pulp mill and use of lignin as a biofuel
TL;DR: In this article, the LignoBoost process is used in a green-field pulp mill for production of Eucalyptus urograndis market pulp, where the focus is mainly on changes in the power balance and improved use of the wood source as a biofuel.

Hardwood versus softwood Kraft lignin – precursor-product relationships in the manufacture of porous carbon nanofibers for supercapacitors
Philipp Schlee,Philipp Schlee,Omid Hosseinaei,Christopher A. O' Keefe,María José Mostazo-López,Diego Cazorla-Amorós,Servann Herou,Per Tomani,Clare P. Grey,Maria-Magdalena Titirici +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, hardwood (HKL) and softwood (SKL) Kraft lignins were stabilized in air at temperatures between 190 and 340 °C before carbonization at 800 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere.
