The activation of methane (CH4) gas to produce more valuable liquid hydrocarbons has long been a challenging issue in catalytic research. Electrochemical oxidation is one of the main methods of methane activation and can usually proceed at in ambient temperature. However, the lack of efficient electrocatalysts limits the practical application of this strategy. In this study, ZrO2 nanotube powder with a high specific surface area was decorated with Co3O4 nanoparticles and used as the electrochemical anode for the partial oxidation of methane to generate C3 alcohol products. The Co3O4 nanoparticles formed on outer the surface of the ZrO2 nanotubes offer an accessible diffusion route for methane gas, resulting in a low onset potential for electrochemical methane activation. A high production rate of approximately 2416 μmol gcat−1 h−1 was obtained at 1.6 V (vs RHE) after 12 h of reaction. This nanostructure engineering strategy contributes to the enhancement of catalytic activity for electrochemical methane oxidation with the production of higher alcohols, which could provide a new catalyst synthesis strategy for researchers.

A ternary nanooxide NiO-TiO2-ZrO2/SO42− as efficient solid superacid catalysts for electro-oxidation of glucose

Sulphated mesoporous La 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 composite oxides (SO 4 2− / meso -La 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 ) were firstly prepared by a surfactant-assisted co-precipitation/hydrothermal crystallization with subsequent impregnation method (SACPHC-IM). The prepared SO 4 2− / meso -La 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 catalyst was employed as solid acid to catalyze direct alkenylation of p -xylene with phenylacetylene for clean production of α -arylstyrene. Various characterization techniques such as N 2 adsorption–desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, NH 3 temperature-programmed desorption (NH 3 -TPD), and pyridine-IR were employed to reveal the relationship between catalyst nature and catalytic performance. The as-prepared SO 4 2− / meso -La 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 catalyst shows much superior catalytic activity and similar selectivity to SO 4 2− / meso -ZrO 2 , ascribed to increasing acid properties, enlarging specific surface area and increasing pore volume, reducing average crystalline size resulting from the promoting effect of adding La into ZrO 2 matrix. Furthermore, the SO 4 2− / meso -La 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 catalysts were optimized by varying the atomic ratio of La/(La + Zr) from 0.05 to 0.2. The SO 4 2− / meso -La 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 catalyst with the 0.1 of optimum La/(La + Zr) atomic ratio exhibited excellent catalytic performance, ascribed to the increase in amount acid sites and pore size. The results for stability test demonstrated that close to 100% of maximum conversion can be achieved, and more than 80% of conversion can be maintained with the time on stream up to 780 min. Through simple calcination treatment, the spent catalyst can be almost complete recovered. The developed SO 4 2− / meso -La 2 O 3 –ZrO 2 catalyst could be a potential candidate for α-arylstyrene production via acid catalyzed direct alkenylation of aromatics with phenylacetylene.

Sulphated mesoporous La2O3–ZrO2 composite oxide as an efficient and reusable solid acid catalyst for alkenylation of aromatics with phenylacetylene

TiO2 has been widely used as a key catalyst in photocatalytic reactions; it also shows good catalytic activity for esterification reactions. Different sulfated M-TiO2 nanoparticles (M = Ag, Au, Rh, and Pt) were prepared by photodeposition and ultrasonic methods. The results show that the noble metal nanoparticles, which were loaded onto a TiO2 surface, slightly affected the crystal phase and particle size of TiO2. Among all the catalysts, /Au-TiO2 exhibited the best catalytic activity in the esterification reaction for the synthesis of citric acid n-butyl acetate and in the decomposition of methyl orange, as confirmed by a high conversion rate of up to 98.2% and 100% degradation rate, respectively. This can be attributed to an increase in the Lewis acidity of the catalyst and increased separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs. This superior catalyst has great potential applications in esterification reactions and wastewater treatments.

This paper describes the application of bonded magnetic abrasive powders (MAPs) in the magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) process. In order to improve the poor finishing performance and short service life of MAPs in polishing super-hard materials, a double-stage atomization technique was used to successfully manufacture MAPs with a CBN as an abrasive phase. The prepared results show that CBN abrasives with their original structure were deeply and densely embedded on the surface of spherical MAPs. Based on the MAF process, a five-level and four-factor central composite design experiment was carried out to verify the developed MAPs polishing performance on the finishing of cemented carbide parts (864 Hv). Working gap, rotational speed, feed rate of a workpiece, and mesh number of MAP were considered as influence factors. The analysis data was used to understand different interactions of significant parameters. A regression model for predicting the change of surface roughness was obtained, and the optimal parameter combination was figured out through a solution of a quadratic equation in Design-Expert software. According to MAF results, the strong cutting ability of atomized CBN MAPs improved the surface roughness of cemented carbide by over 80% at the optimum parameters. The strong cutting ability of atomized CBN MAPs can produce good surface quality on the hard materials. The findings of this research can promote a large-scale application of MAF technology in the surface polishing of hard materials.
