A computer system that collects diagnostic information from diagnostic software as well as knowledgepath information about the path a user uses in searching a knowledgebase and provides this information electronically to a call center where the information is stored in a database along with a textual description of the problem. Correlation software analyzes data from multiple incidents to correlate the multiple incidents into common problem definitions.

Automated diagnostic metric loop

Software errors in distributed systems are difficult to detect, locate and correct. The relational database approach in software diagnostics is an integrated approach encompassing most features in static analysis, dynamic testing, symbolic execution and performance evaluation techniques. Modified syntax analysis of source program and testing run of the instrumented code generate the basis relations (symbol tables, graph models, program fragments, execution histories) from which diagnostic information is retrieved interactively. The basis relations contain necessary information to diagnose the software since data structures, algorithms and execution behavior of the software are included. Implementations of some typical dynamic testing features extended to distributed software are discussed and illustrated.

~i2l.though intelligent machines-robots- have made their appearance in certain applications, they have not e ntered the consumer marketplace. One of the reasons for this is the lack of the inexpensive sensor systems that would provide the robot with an image of the surrounding environment. This sensing faculty is a required capability for any autonomous entity. utilizing phased array technology is being developed for use in simple consumer robotic applications. The system c oncept was presented at tlie Twelfth Southeastern Symposium on System Theory. This paper discusses the functional components of the system and describes the testing procedure. The use of the sensing system in consumer robotics is explicated, and several r epresentative applications are illustrated.
