Fate of the naturally occurring radioactive materials during treatment of acid mine drainage with coal fly ash and aluminium hydroxide.
Godfrey Madzivire,Peane P. Maleka,Viswanath R.K. Vadapalli,Wilson M. Gitari,Robert S. Lindsay,Leslie F. Petrik +5 more
TL;DR: It was established that coal fly ash treatment method was capable of removing radioactive materials from mine water to within the target water quality range for drinking water standards, and radioactivity in the mine water was reduced.

Measurement of radioactivity concentration in soil samples around phosphate rock storage facility in Richards Bay, South Africa
TL;DR: In this article, the average radioactivity concentrations of naturally occurring radionuclides in soil samples collected around a rock phosphate storage facility in Richards Bay in South Africa were determined and a total of 90 soil samples were collected and analyzed for 238U and 232Th using neutron activation analysis and 226Ra and 4 K using HPGe detector.

Natural radioactivity contents in commonly consumed leafy vegetables cultivated through surface water irrigation in Lagos state, Nigeria
Margaret B. Adedokun,M. A. Aweda,Peane P. Maleka,R. I. Obed,Kayode I. Ogungbemi,Zacchaeus A. Ibitoye +5 more
TL;DR: In the industrialized area of Lagos, vegetables are mostly cultivated through surface water irrigation as mentioned in this paper, which has the potential of being contaminated with radionuclide fr..., but it has not been tested yet.

Health Effects Due to Radionuclides Content of Solid Minerals within Port of Richards Bay, South Africa
TL;DR: Effective annual dose rate in (mSv·y−1) delivered to different organs of the body: testes, bone marrow, whole body, lungs and ovaries from Mineral ores were such that dose from mineral ores decreased in the order coal > rutile > rock phosphate > hematite > zircon.

Determining the radon exhalation rate from a gold mine tailings dump by measuring the gamma radiation.
TL;DR: In this work radon exhalation measurements from the non-operational Kloof mine dump have been performed by measuring the gamma radiation from the dump fairly accurately over an area of more than 1 km(2).
