The effects of talker variability and frequency of exposure on the acquisition of spoken word knowledge
TL;DR: This paper found that frequency of exposure consistently promoted the recall of spoken forms, whereas talker variability was more closely related to the enhancement of word stress accuracy, which shed light on how input quantity (frequency) and quality (variability) affect different stages of lexical development and provide implications for vocabulary teaching.

Are certain types of instruction better for certain learners
TL;DR: It is found that the learners who had greater contact with English, who showed more interest in reading, whose parents spoke more English, and who attained higher scores in French reading, English vocabulary recognition and general school ability tended to produce more accurate and comprehensible English sentences in an elicited imitation task.

Disentangling professional competence and foreign accent
TL;DR: This paper examined listeners' evaluations of first (L1 and second language (L2) English speech in work-related contexts and found that Tagalog speakers were rated as less competent and comprehensible overall compared to English speakers, with all effects magnified for speakers with heavier foreign accents.
