Silva,Ludmila Karen dos Santos Silva,Ludmila Karen dos Santos Silva,Jacques Yaacoub Bou Khalil,Rodrigo Araújo Lima Rodrigues,Thalita Souza Arantes,Felipe L. Assis,Paulo V. M. Boratto,Miguel de Souza Andrade,Erna Geessien Kroon,Bergmann Morais Ribeiro,Ivan Bergier,Hervé Seligmann,Eric Ghigo,Philippe Colson,Anthony Levasseur,Guido Kroemer,Didier Raoult,Bernard La Scola +21 more
TL;DR: Tupanvirus is a unique giant virus that has an unusually long tail and contains the largest translational apparatus of the known virosphere and their genetic analysis can provide insights into virus evolution.
Acanthamoeba polyphaga mimivirus and other giant viruses: an open field to outstanding discoveries
Jônatas Santos Abrahão,Fábio P. Dornas,Lorena C. F. Silva,Gabriel Magno de Freitas Almeida,Paulo V. M. Boratto,P. Colson,Bernard La Scola,Erna Geessien Kroon +7 more
TL;DR: This review aims to condense the studies conducted so far about the features and peculiarities of APMV, from its discovery to its clinical relevance, and concludes that this virus founded the family Mimiviridae.
Pan-Genome Analysis of Brazilian Lineage A Amoebal Mimiviruses
Felipe L. Assis,Leena H. Bajrai,Jônatas Santos Abrahão,Erna Geessien Kroon,Fábio P. Dornas,Ketyllen Reis Andrade,Paulo V. M. Boratto,Mariana Rangel Pilotto,Catherine Robert,Samia Benamar,Bernard La Scola,Philippe Colson +11 more
TL;DR: The aims of this work were to sequence and analyze the genome of these new Brazilian mimiviruses (mimi-BR) and update the analysis of the Samba virus genome, and to identify three new ORFans in the Kroon virus genome.

Mimivirus circulation among wild and domestic mammals, Amazon Region, Brazil.
Fábio P. Dornas,Felipe G. Pinheiro Rodrigues,Paulo V. M. Boratto,Lorena C. F. Silva,Paulo César Peregrino Ferreira,Cláudio A. Bonjardim,Giliane de Souza Trindade,Erna Geessien Kroon,Bernard La Scola,Jônatas Santos Abrahão +9 more
TL;DR: To investigate circulation of mimiviruses in the Amazon Region of Brazil, 513 serum samples from domestic and wild mammals were surveyed and Neutralizing antibodies were detected and mimivirus DNA was detected in 9 pools of serum from capuchin monkeys and in 16 pools from cattle.
Niemeyer Virus: A New Mimivirus Group A Isolate Harboring a Set of Duplicated Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthetase Genes
Paulo V. M. Boratto,Thalita Souza Arantes,Lorena C. F. Silva,Felipe L. Assis,Erna Geessien Kroon,Bernard La Scola,Jônatas Santos Abrahão +6 more
TL;DR: The isolation and characterization of Niemeyer virus is described, a new mimivirus isolate obtained from water samples of an urban lake in Brazil, which reveals duplicated copies of three of its four aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase genes and raises new questions about the origins and selective pressures involving events of aaRS gain and loss among mimiviruses.
