IL-6 trans-signaling in the brain influences the behavioral and physio-pathological phenotype of the Tg2576 and 3xTgAD mouse models of Alzheimer's disease.
Anna Escrig,Carla Canal,Paula Sanchis,Olaya Fernández-Gayol,Alejandro Montilla,Gemma Comes,Amalia Molinero,Mercedes Giralt,Lydia Giménez-Llort,Christoph Becker-Pauly,Stefan Rose-John,Juan Hidalgo +11 more
TL;DR: The results strongly suggest that the inhibition of the IL-6 trans-signaling could represent a powerful therapeutic target in AD.

Microglial cell‐derived interleukin‐6 influences behavior and inflammatory response in the brain following traumatic brain injury
Paula Sanchis,Olaya Fernández-Gayol,Joel Vizueta,Gemma Comes,Carla Canal,Anna Escrig,Amalia Molinero,Mercedes Giralt,Juan Hidalgo +8 more
TL;DR: In normal conditions, microglial IL‐6 deficiency reduced deambulation and exploratory behavior and decreased anxiety in a sex‐dependent manner and the transcriptome profile following cryolesion was dramatically altered 1 day post‐lesion in Il6ΔMic compared with Il6lox/lox mice.

Interleukin-6 Derived from the Central Nervous System May Influence the Pathogenesis of Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis in a Cell-Dependent Manner.
Paula Sanchis,Olaya Fernández-Gayol,Olaya Fernández-Gayol,Gemma Comes,Anna Escrig,Mercedes Giralt,Richard D. Palmiter,Juan Hidalgo +7 more
TL;DR: The combined results reveal a minor role for Il6 expression in both astrocytes and microglia for symptomatology and neuropathology of EAE, whereas neuronal Il 6 expression was not relevant for the variables analyzed.
Different Responses to a High-Fat Diet in IL-6 Conditional Knockout Mice Driven by Constitutive GFAP-Cre and Synapsin 1-Cre Expression.
Olaya Fernández-Gayol,Paula Sanchis,Kevin Aguilar,Alicia Navarro-Sempere,Gemma Comes,Amalia Molinero,Mercedes Giralt,Juan Hidalgo +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that brain production of IL-6 regulates body weight in the context of caloric excess and that the cellular source is critical.

IL-6 Trans-Signaling in the Brain Influences the Metabolic Phenotype of the 3xTg-AD Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease.
Anna Escrig,Amalia Molinero,Brenda Méndez,Mercedes Giralt,Gemma Comes,Paula Sanchis,Olaya Fernández-Gayol,Lydia Giménez-Llort,Christoph Becker-Pauly,Stefan Rose-John,Juan Hidalgo +10 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided of IL-6 trans-signaling playing a role in the CNS of a mouse model of AD, which showed a mild amyloid phenotype, which nevertheless altered the control of body weight and related endocrine and metabolic factors, suggestive of a hypermetabolic state.
