Dietary preferences of a submontane population of the rare Nigerian-Cameroon chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes ellioti) in Ngel Nyaki Forest Reserve, Nigeria.
Paul Dutton,Hazel M. Chapman +1 more
TL;DR: The results from the Rank Preference Index (RPI) suggest that relative preferences in fruit are seasonal, and the role of Ficus in the diet of chimpanzees in Ngel Nyaki Forest Reserve is discussed.

Human Activity and Forest Degradation Threaten Populations of the Nigeria–Cameroon Chimpanzee ( Pan troglodytes ellioti ) in Western Cameroon
Chefor Fotang,Udo Bröring,Christian Roos,Evidence Chinedu Enoguanbhor,Ekwoge E. Abwe,Paul Dutton,Peter Schierack,Tsi Evaristus Angwafo,Klaus Birkhofer +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived independent estimates of the population size of the Endangered Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes ellioti) in Kom-Wum Forest Reserve, Cameroon, and surrounding unprotected forest areas through direct observations, camera trapping, distance sampling, marked nest counts, and standing crop nest counts.
Secondary removal of seeds dispersed by chimpanzees in a Nigerian montane forest
TL;DR: Field experiments showed that secondary seed removal after 24 h varied between species, but no previous significant differences were observed among treatments, which suggested treatment becomes insignificant with time, and species involvement and their influences on seed treatments are documents.

New tools suggest local variation in tool use by a montane community of the rare Nigeria–Cameroon chimpanzee, Pan troglodytes ellioti , in Nigeria
Paul Dutton,Hazel M. Chapman +1 more
TL;DR: This study provides data on tool use by a small, recently isolated population of the endangered Nigeria–Cameroon chimpanzee Pan troglodytesellioti, thus demonstrating regional variation in tool use in this rarely studied subspecies.

TL;DR: The role of Ficus in the diets of chimpanzees in the NgelNyaki Forest Reserve was investigated in this paper, where a total of 495 fecal samples were collected in which52fruittax were identified and identified by different chimp species, including 22 identifications at species level and two identifications to genus level.
