Tumor Cell Traffic through the Extracellular Matrix Is Controlled by the Membrane-anchored Collagenase MT1-MMP
Farideh Sabeh,Ichiro Ota,Kenn Holmbeck,Henning Birkedal-Hansen,Paul D. Soloway,Milagros Balbín,Carlos López-Otín,Steven D. Shapiro,Masaki Inada,Stephen M. Krane,Edward D. Allen,Duane A. Chung,Stephen J. Weiss +12 more
TL;DR: It is found that fibroblasts and cancer cells express an indistinguishable pericellular collagenolytic activity that allows them to traverse the ECM and that MT1-MMP serves as the major cell-associated proteinase necessary to confer normal or neoplastic cells with invasive activity.
TIMP-2 Is Required for Efficient Activation of proMMP-2 in Vivo
TL;DR: TIP-2 was shown to be required for efficient proMMP-2 activation both in vivo and in vitro, and Mutant mice were overtly normal, viable, and fertile on the C57BL/6 background, indicating that both TIMP-2 and activated proM MP-2 are dispensable for normal development.

Soloway,Hiroyuki Sasaki,Hiroyuki Sasaki +28 more
TL;DR: This work has found that the components of the PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA) pathway are required for de novo methylation of the differentially methylated region of the imprinted mouse Rasgrf1 locus, but not other paternally imprinted loci.
Site-specific inductive and inhibitory activities of MMP-2 and MMP-3 orchestrate mammary gland branching morphogenesis
Bryony S. Wiseman,Mark D. Sternlicht,Leif R. Lund,Caroline M. Alexander,Joni D. Mott,Mina J. Bissell,Paul D. Soloway,Shigeyoshi Itohara,Zena Werb +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used pharmacologic and genetic approaches to find that mammary gland branching morphogenesis requires transient matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity for invasion and branch point selection.

Transcriptome-wide identification of novel imprinted genes in neonatal mouse brain.
TL;DR: Se sequencing of the transcriptomes of reciprocal F1 mouse neonatal brains identified 26 genes with parent-of-origin dependent differential allelic expression, shedding light on the mechanism, bioinformatic prediction, and evolution of imprinted genes and diseases associated with genomic imprinting.
