Genes expressed in the brain define three distinct neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
TL;DR: Four genes encode the related protein subunits that assemble to form the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) at the motor endplate of vertebrates and probably exists in all vertebrates since their counterparts have also been identified in the rat genome.

Ca2+ signaling via the neuronal calcium sensor-1 regulates associative learning and memory in C. elegans.

TL;DR: In this paper, the neuron-specific calcium sensor-1 (NCS-1) is essential for optimal isothermal tracking in C. elegans worms, and a loss-of-function form of NCS-1 incapable of binding calcium does not restore IT, whereas NCS1 overexpression enhances IT performance, accelerates learning and produces a memory with slower extinction.

Calcium Sensor-1 Regulates Associative Learning and Memory in C. elegans

TL;DR: It is shown that the neuron-specific calcium sensor-1 (NCS-1) is essential for optimal IT, and proper calcium signaling via NCS-1 defines a novel pathway essential for associative learning and memory.

Electrophysiology of a chick neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor expressed in Xenopus oocytes after cDNA injection.
Marc Ballivet,Patrick Nef,Sabine Couturier,Duri Rungger,C.R. Bader,Daniel Bertrand,E. Cooper +6 more
TL;DR: It is found that these brain nA ChRs incorporate at least two alpha 4 subunits and that their functional properties differ from muscle nAChRs in at leastTwo respects: the elementary conductance is considerably smaller (20 pS), and channels in outside out patches stop functioning within a few minutes.

Structure linkage, and sequence of the two genes encoding the delta and gamma subunits of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor.
TL;DR: A fragment of the chicken genome that comprises the genes encoding the delta and gamma subunits of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor is cloned and sequenced, revealing a high degree of conservation in some but not all of the protein domains.
