Maize landraces recruit egg and larval parasitoids in response to egg deposition by a herbivore
Amanuel Tamiru,Toby J. A. Bruce,Christine M. Woodcock,John C. Caulfield,Charles A. O. Midega,C. K. P. O. Ogol,Patrick Mayon,Michael A. Birkett,John A. Pickett,Zeyaur R. Khan +9 more
TL;DR: It is found that egg deposition by stemborer moths on maize landrace varieties caused emission of HIPVs that attract parasitic wasps, however, the oviposition-induced release of parasitoid attractants was completely absent in commercial hybrid maize varieties.

Aphid antixenosis in cotton is activated by the natural plant defence elicitor cis-jasmone
Mahabaleshwar Hegde,Janser N. Oliveira,João Gomes da Costa,E. Loza-Reyes,Ervino Bleicher,Antônio Euzébio Goulart Santana,John C. Caulfield,Patrick Mayon,Sarah Y. Dewhirst,Toby J. A. Bruce,John A. Pickett,Michael A. Birkett +11 more
TL;DR: The results in this study show that CJ can induce the production of A. gossypii-induced VOCs from G. hirsutum, with potential for deployment in novel crop protection strategies.

Semiochemicals from herbivory induced cotton plants enhance the foraging behavior of the cotton boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis.
D. M. Magalhães,D. M. Magalhães,Miguel Borges,Raul Alberto Laumann,Edison R. Sujii,Edison R. Sujii,Patrick Mayon,John C. Caulfield,Charles A. O. Midega,Zeyaur R. Khan,John A. Pickett,Michael A. Birkett,Maria Carolina Blassioli-Moraes +12 more
TL;DR: Results show that A. grandis uses conspecific herbivore-induced volatiles in host location, and that homoterpene compounds, such as (E)- 4,8-dimethylnona-1,3,7–triene and (E,E)-4,8,12-trimethyltrideca- 1, 3,7,11-tetraene and the monoterpenes (E-ocimene, may be
Vicia faba-Lygus rugulipennis Interactions: Induced Plant Volatiles and Sex Pheromone Enhancement
Francesca Frati,Keith Chamberlain,Michael A. Birkett,Samuel Dufour,Patrick Mayon,Christine M. Woodcock,Lester J. Wadhams,John A. Pickett,Gianandrea Salerno,Eric Conti,Ferdinando Bin +10 more
TL;DR: Mated males and females were responsive to hexyl butyrate, (E)-2-hexenyl butYRate, and (E-4-oxo-2- hexenal released by mated females on V. faba, indicating that these substances could have a dual function as a possible aggregation pheromone in female–female communication, and as a sex pheramone inFemale–male communication.
Sex Pheromone Communication in Two Sympatric Neotropical Stink Bug Species Chinavia ubica and Chinavia impicticornis
Maria Carolina Blassioli-Moraes,Raul Alberto Laumann,Márcio Wandré Morais de Oliveira,Christine M. Woodcock,Patrick Mayon,Antony M. Hooper,John A. Pickett,Michael A. Birkett,Miguel Borges +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the absolute stereochemistry of BEs may be less important for conspecific recognition than the relative stereochemistry between the epoxide group and the alkyl substituent on the bisabolene ring.
