This chapter provides an introduction to the topic of visualizing bibliometric networks. First, the most commonly studied types of bibliometric networks (i.e., citation, co-citation, bibliographic coupling, keyword co-occurrence, and coauthorship networks) are discussed, and three popular visualization approaches (i.e., distance-based, graph-based, and timeline-based approaches) are distinguished. Next, an overview is given of a number of software tools that can be used for visualizing bibliometric networks. In the second part of the chapter, the focus is specifically on two software tools: VOSviewer and CitNetExplorer. The techniques used by these tools to construct, analyze, and visualize bibliometric networks are discussed. In addition, tutorials are offered that demonstrate in a step-by-step manner how both tools can be used. Finally, the chapter concludes with a discussion of the limitations and the proper use of bibliometric network visualizations and with a summary of some ongoing and future developments.

An improved typology of cutting and packing problems

This paper is the second part of a comprehensive survey on pickup and delivery models. Basically, two problem classes can be distinguished. The first part dealt with the transportation of goods from the depot to linehaul customers and from backhaul customers to the depot. In this class four subtypes were considered, namely the Vehicle Routing Problem with Clustered Backhauls (VRPCB all linehauls before backhauls), the Vehicle Routing Problem with Mixed linehauls and Backhauls (VRPMB any sequence of linehauls and backhauls permitted), the Vehicle Routing Problem with Divisible Delivery and Pickup (VRPDDP customers demanding delivery and pickup service can be visited twice), and the Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Delivery and Pickup (VRPSDP customers demanding both services have to be visited exactly once). The second part now considers all those problems where goods are transported between pickup and delivery locations, denoted as Vehicle Routing Problems with Pickups and Deliveries (VRPPD). These are the Pickup and Delivery VRP (PDVRP unpaired pickup and delivery points), the classical Pickup and Delivery Problem (PDP paired pickup and delivery points), and the Dial-A-Ride Problem (DARP paired pickup and delivery points and user inconvenience taken into consideration). A single as well as a multi vehicle mathematical problem formulation for all three VRPPD types is given, and the respective exact, heuristic, and metaheuristic solution methods are discussed.

Today, many modern processors support more than one page size. The larger pages, called superpages, have been identified as one means of reducing the time spent servicing translation lookaside buffer (TLB) misses in the early 1990s by increasing TLB reach. Widespread usage of superpages has been limited by the requirement that superpages consist of physically contiguous and naturally-aligned small pages. This makes external fragmentation a serious problem for an operating system, one that is almost non-existent when processes use only one page size. Hardware solutions to mitigate this limitation such as sub-blocking, shadow page-tables and a variety of hybrid solutions have not seen wide-spread adoption. This has curtailed automatic superpage support as it is known that superpage availability will decrease during the system's lifetime as external fragmentation grows.This paper presents a placement policy for an operating system's physical page allocator to mitigate external fragmentation problems by grouping pages based on the system's ability to relocate the data. Secondly, the necessary changes to the page reclamation algorithm for it to be contiguity-aware are described while minimising impact to the reclamation algorithms' normal decisions. The performance impact on different machine types is illustrated and it is shown that the superpage allocation success rate is improved. These mechanisms are complementary to any of the hardware solutions proposed in the past.

Supporting superpage allocation without additional hardware support

Software product lines of industrial size can easily incorporate thousands of variation points. This scale of variability can become extremely complex to manage resulting in a product development process that bears significant costs. One technique that can be applied beneficially in this context is visualisation. Visualisation is widely used in software engineering and has proven useful to amplify human cognition in data intensive applications. Adopting this technique in software product line engineering can help stakeholders in supporting essential work tasks and in enhancing their understanding of large and complex product lines. The research presented in this paper describes an integrated meta-model and research tool that employs visualisation techniques to address significant software product line tasks such as variability management and product derivation. Examples of the tasks are described and the ways in which these tasks can be further supported by utilising visualisation techniques are explained.
