Degenerate Fermi Gas of 87 Sr
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported quantum degeneracy in a gas of ultracold fermionic (87)Sr atoms by evaporatively cooling a mixture of spin states in an optical dipole trap for 10.5 s. The main signature of degeneracy is a change in the momentum distribution as measured by time-of-flight imaging.
Using absorption imaging to study ion dynamics in an ultracold neutral plasma.
C. E. Simien,Ying-Cheng Chen,P. Gupta,Sampad Laha,Y. N. Martinez,Pascal Mickelson,S. B. Nagel,Thomas Killian +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, optical absorption imaging of ultracold neutral strontium plasmas was performed and the ion spectrum determined from the images was broadened and thus provided a quantitative measure of the ion kinetic energy.
Electron Screening and Kinetic-Energy Oscillations in a Strongly Coupled Plasma
Ying-Cheng Chen,C. E. Simien,Sampad Laha,P. Gupta,Y. N. Martinez,Pascal Mickelson,S. B. Nagel,Thomas Killian +7 more
TL;DR: By varying the electron temperature, it is shown that electron screening modifies the equilibrium ion temperature and damped oscillations of the ion kinetic energy that are a unique feature of equilibration of a strongly coupled plasma.
Two-photon photoassociative spectroscopy of ultracold Sr 88
Y. N. Martinez de Escobar,Pascal Mickelson,Philippe Pellegrini,S. B. Nagel,Andrew J. Traverso,M. Yan,Robin Côté,Thomas Killian +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the least-bound vibrational level of the two-photon photoassociative spectroscopy of the dimer was derived from the binding energy, which was then used to obtain a bound on the metastable potential.
