Systematic structural studies of iron superoxide dismutases from human parasites and a statistical coupling analysis of metal binding specificity.
José Fernando Ruggiero Bachega,Marcos V.A.S. Navarro,Lucas Bleicher,Raquel Kely Bortoleto-Bugs,Daniel Dive,Pascal Hoffmann,Eric Viscogliosi,Richard Charles Garratt +7 more
TL;DR: Crystal structures of FeSODs from the trypanosomes T. brucei and P. falciparum are reported and homodimeric enzymes are compared to the related human MnSOD with particular attention to structural aspects which are relevant for drug design.

Screening of Plasmodium falciparum iron superoxide dismutase inhibitors and accuracy of the SOD-assays
Laurent Soulère,Patrick Delplace,Elisabeth Davioud-Charvet,Sandrine Py,Christian Sergheraert,Jacques Périé,Isabelle Ricard,Pascal Hoffmann,Daniel Dive +8 more
TL;DR: In vitro evaluation of a chemical library of synthetic compounds using two consecutive assays has led to the discovery of fifteen compounds which have the ability to inhibit recombinant Plasmodium falciparum iron superoxide dismutase (PfSOD), suggested as a highly selective target for design of antiparasitic drugs.

Bismuth Triflate as a Safe and Readily Handled Source of Triflic Acid: Application to the Oxa–Pictet–Spengler Reaction
TL;DR: In this article, the oxa-pictet-Spengler reaction with various aldehydes and β-arylethanol yields 1-substituted-isochromans in the presence of bismuth triflate as catalyst in good yields.

Bismuth triflate-catalyzed oxa- and thia-Pictet–Spengler reactions: access to iso- and isothio-chroman compounds
Christian Lherbet,David Soupaya,Cécile Baudoin-Dehoux,Chantal André,Casimir Blonski,Pascal Hoffmann +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a new route to functionalized iso(thio)chromans is described, which is accessible easily in a one pot-reaction by using different benzaldehydes and phenylethanethiol or phenylthanol in presence of bismuth triflate.
