According to the present invention, provided is a positive electrode active material for a secondary battery, the positive electrode active material comprising: a core; a shell which is located to surround the core; and a buffer layer which is located between the core and the shell, and which includes a 3D network structure, connecting the core and the shell, and pores; wherein each of the core, the shell and the 3D network structure of the buffer layer independently includes a lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt based composite metal oxide, and at least one metallic element of nickel, manganese and cobalt exhibits a concentration gradient gradually changing within any one region of the core, the shell and all active material particles. During manufacture of an electrode, deconstruction of an active material can be minimized by a rolling process, reactivity with an electrolyte can be maximized, and particles constituting the shell have a crystal structure having an orientation that facilitates insertion and separation of lithium ions. Accordingly, provided are the positive electrode active material for a secondary battery, a method for preparing the same, and a secondary battery comprising the same, which are capable of improving output and lifespan characteristics of a lithium secondary battery.

Moreover, the method disclosed by the invention is simple in technology, and is easy to realize industrial production.
