This paper reviews the alien (non-native, non-indigenous, exotic) true bug (Heteroptera) species in Europe. Forty-two established alien Heteroptera are recognized, of which 12 species are alien to Europe (originating outside Europe: eight from North America, three from the Eastern Palaearctic, one from New Zealand), 24 species are alien within Europe (translocated within Europe), and six cryptogenic species are of unknown origin. Since 1990 an approximate arrival rate of 7 species per decade has been observed. A recent trend of increased introductions from North America to Europe is suggested. The most important pathway of alien Heteroptera is translocation as contaminants (49 %), usually with ornamental plants, followed by unintentional introduction through natural dispersal (unaided) across political borders within Europe (28 %), and translocation as stowaways within a transport vector (21 %). The taxonomic composition of the alien Heteroptera of Europe is dominated by Miridae (17 species, 40 %), Tingidae (8 species, 19 %), and Anthocoridae (5 species, 12 %), all of which are overrepresented compared to the native European Heteroptera fauna. More than half of the species are phytophagous (24 species, 57 %) and the advantage of trophic specialization in invasion success is discussed. Most species are currently known to occur in the Czech Republic (19 species) and Germany (17 species), followed by Western European countries (Belgium 15 sp., France and United Kingdom 14 sp. each, and Netherlands 13 sp.), resulting in an apparent (north)west–(south)east gradient probably reflecting horticultural tradition in Europe. No unambiguousevidence exists so far for negative ecological or economical impacts, but more research is needed to investigate possible effects. Introductions of alien Heteroptera to and within Europe will increase, and deserve further consideration.

Alien True Bugs of Europe (Insecta: Hemiptera: Heteroptera)

Th e inventory of the alien Heteroptera of Europe includes 16 species alien to Europe, 25 species alien in Europe and 7 cryptogenic species. Th is is approximately 1.7% of the Heteroptera species occurring in Eu- rope. Most species belong to Miridae (20 spp.), Tingidae (8 spp.), and Anthocoridae (7 spp.). Th e rate of introductions has exponentially increased within the 20 th century and since 1990 an approximate arrival rate of seven species per decade has been observed. Most of the species alien to Europe are from North America, almost all of the species alien in Europe originate in the Mediterranean region and were translo- cated to central and northern Europe. Most alien Heteroptera species are known from Central and West- ern Europe (Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Great Britain). Ornamental trade and movement as stowaways with transport vehicles are the major pathways for alien Heteroptera. Most alien Heteroptera colonize habitats under strong human infl uence, like agricultural, horticultural, and domestic habitats, parks and gardens. A few species prefer woodland including plantations of non-native forest trees. Im- pacts of alien Heteroptera in Europe are poorly investigated. A few species are considered pests in agricul- ture, forestry, or on ornamentals. More research is needed for a better understanding of the ecological and economic eff ects of introduced Heteroptera.

Corythucha arcuata (Say) (Hemiptera: Tingidae) is a pest of oaks that is highly distributed in several regions of the world, including North America, the Balkan Peninsula, Europe, and Turkey. In the present study, ten entomopathogenic fungi belonging to four different genera (Metarhizium (×4), Beauveria (×4), Isaria (×1), and Myriodontium (×1)) were tested against nymphs and adults of C. arcuata under laboratory conditions. Based on the initial screening studies, it was shown that all isolates were able to infect both nymph and adult individuals of the pest after application of 1 × 10 7 mL -1 conidial concentration. Among the tested isolates, Beauveria bassiana KTU-24 caused the highest mortality against both nymphs and adults within 14 days, with 80% and 90% mortality, respectively. This isolate also produced the highest mycosis values on both nymphs and adults, with 77% and 83% mycosis, respectively. Therefore, this isolate (B. bassiana KTU-24) was selected for concentration-mortality response tests for further characterization. The concentration- mortality response tests showed that the conidial concentrations of 1 × 10 8 and 1 × 10 9 mL -1 of B. bassiana KTU-24 produced 100% mortality against nymphs and the conidial concentration of 1 × 10 9 mL -1 of this isolate caused 100% mortality against adults. Based on probit analysis, the LC 50 values of the isolate B. bassiana KTU-24 were calculated as 1.17 × 10 7 and 6.44 × 10 6 conidia mL -1 against nymphs and adults, respectively. This study indicates that B. bassiana KTU-24 has a significant potential for further investigation as biological control agent against C. arcuata.

Pathogenicity of selected entomopathogenic fungal isolates against the oak lace bug, Corythucha arcuata Say. (Hemiptera: Tingidae), under controlled conditions

In June 2018, the presence of one adult specimen and one egg cluster of the North-American oak lace bug Corythucha arcuata were recorded near the village of Mužla, close to the Danube River, in southern Slovakia. They were found on leaves of Quercus cerris growing in a mixed stand. In August 2018, other specimens (nymphs and adults) were observed on Quercus robur leaves, near Čičarovce, in eastern Slovakia. This is the first record of C. arcuata in our country. The oak lace bug probably reached us while invading from Hungary, where heavy infestation is reported from several parts of the country.

The oak lace bug, Corythucha arcuata (Say) is an important invasive species that causes severe damage to oak species. It was first identified in Europe in 2000. It was recorded for the first time in Turkey in 2003 in Bolu. The sycamore lace bug Corythucha ciliata (Say) is an invasive species that causes severe damage to sycamore trees. The first time it was reported in Europe was in 1964 in Italy. It was recorded for the first time in Turkey in 2007 in Bolu province. Sixty-seven adult individuals of C. arcuata were collected from Kastamonu in 2013 as well as eight adult individuals of C. ciliata in 2013 and 2014. The present study was completed in 2014 with adult specimens collected from the stem and leaves of Platanus orientalis L., and Quercus spp. trees, located in Kastamonu Central Province and the Catalzeytin district, and identified in the laboratory. Nymphal skin, egg, adult specimens were observed on the leaves. The damage done by C. ciliata to sycamore trees and by C. arcuata to oak leaves was determined. In this study, the C. ciliata and C. arcuata species were recorded for the first time in Kastamonu.
