As a first attempt, Fourier series expansion (FSE), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and genetic algorithm (GA) methods are coupled for analysis of the static–dynamic performance and propagated waves in the magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) nanoplate. The FSE method is presented for solving the motion equations of the MEE nanoplate. For increasing the performance of genetic algorithms for solving the problem, the particle swarm optimization technique is added as an operator of the GA. Accuracy, convergence, and applicability of the proposed mixed approach are shown in the results section. Also, we prove that for obtaining the convergence results of the PSO and GA, we should consider more than 16 iterations. Finally, it is shown that if designers consider the presented algorithm in their model, the results of phase velocity of the nanosystem will be increased by 27%. A useful suggestion is that there is a region the same as a trapezium in which there are no effects from magnetic and electric potential of the MEE face sheet on the phase velocity of the smart nanoplate, and the region will be bigger by increasing the wavenumber.

This research studies the nonlinear buckling of two-dimensional functionally graded (2D-FG) nanotubes with porosity based on the Zhang-Fu theory of tubes, Timoshenko beam theory, and the nonlocal gradient strain theory (NSGT) as well as Von-Karmen nonlinear theory. In this paper, the formulation of the problem for various boundary conditions is generated according to the energy method. Then, the results are extracted by incorporating the generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) coupled with the iteration method. The accuracy of the results is proven through comparative studies, and finally, the impact of different parameters, which influence the buckling of the nanotube, is investigated. 

A couple of GDQM and iteration techniques for the linear and nonlinear buckling of bi-directional functionally graded nanotubes based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory and high-order beam theory

In the current paper, vibrational and critical circular speed characteristics of a functionally graded (FG) rotary microdisk is examined considering a continuum nonlocal model called modified couple stress (MCS) model, for the first time in the literature. The generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) approach and variational method are used for deriving and solving the non-classical final relations. The FG size-dependent micro-sized disk’s final relations and corresponding boundary conditions (BCs) are achieved on the basis of the higher-order shear deformation (HSD) model. Then, a parametric analysis has been conducted to analyze the influences of the length scale factor, circumferential, radius ratio and radial mode number, FG material’s configuration, and BCs on the FG micro-scaled disk’s frequency by taking into account the MCST. The outcomes reveal that, at the initial value of the FG index (β), the negative impact from rotating speed on the dynamic stability of the system becomes bold. Furthermore, at the β factor’s lower amount and spinning velocity’s higher amount, there is instability in the responses of the system. Additionally, it is indicated that the negative effect from radius ratio on the frequency responses of the rotary FG microdisk becomes considerable at the length scale factor’s higher amount.

Dynamic stability/instability simulation of the rotary size-dependent functionally graded microsystem

An iterative algorithm is a mathematical procedure that uses an initial value to generate a sequence of improving approximate solutions for a class of problems, in which the nth approximation is derived from the previous ones. As a first endeavor, the nonlinear dynamic instability performance of the electrical plate on the nonlinear elastic substrate using an iterative algorithm is scrutinized in this research. A nonlinear elastic foundation is assumed to be in contact with the electrical plate during deformation. The nonlinear coupled dynamic equations governing the transverse and longitudinal motions of the electrical plate are derived using Hamilton’s principle method, the von Karman geometric nonlinearity, and improved higher-order shear deformation theory. The iterative algorithm based generalized differential quadrature method (IAB-GDQM) is applied for solving the nonlinear equations with the aid of nonlinear boundary domains. Parametric studies are implemented to explore the impacts of the applied voltage, geometry of the plate, and nonlinear factor on large amplitude motion, and nonlinear dynamics of the presented system for various boundary domains. Results show that the nonlinear dynamic depends on nonlinear elastic foundation effects and the applied voltage, which can be used to design the electrically structures in different environmental conditions accurately.

An iterative simulation algorithm for large oscillation of the applicable 2D-electrical system on a complex nonlinear substrate

Importance
The risk of adverse events from ascending thoracic aorta aneurysm (TAA) is poorly understood but drives clinical decision-making.


Objective
To evaluate the association of TAA size with outcomes in nonsyndromic patients in a large non-referral-based health care delivery system.


Design, Setting, and Participants
The Kaiser Permanente Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm (KP-TAA) cohort study was a retrospective cohort study at Kaiser Permanente Northern California, a fully integrated health care delivery system insuring and providing care for more than 4.5 million persons. Nonsyndromic patients from a regional TAA safety net tracking system were included. Imaging data including maximum TAA size were merged with electronic health record (EHR) and comprehensive death data to obtain demographic characteristics, comorbidities, medications, laboratory values, vital signs, and subsequent outcomes. Unadjusted rates were calculated and the association of TAA size with outcomes was evaluated in multivariable competing risk models that categorized TAA size as a baseline and time-updated variable and accounted for potential confounders. Data were analyzed from January 2018 to August 2021.

Aortic dissection (AD), all-cause death, and elective aortic surgery.


Results
Of 6372 patients with TAA identified between 2000 and 2016 (mean [SD] age, 68.6 [13.0] years; 2050 female individuals [32.2%] and 4322 male individuals [67.8%]), mean (SD) initial TAA size was 4.4 (0.5) cm (828 individuals [13.0% of cohort] had initial TAA size 5.0 cm or larger and 280 [4.4%] 5.5 cm or larger). Rates of AD were low across a mean (SD) 3.7 (2.5) years of follow-up (44 individuals [0.7% of cohort]; incidence 0.22 events per 100 person-years). Larger initial aortic size was associated with higher risk of AD and all-cause death in multivariable models, with an inflection point in risk at 6.0 cm. Estimated adjusted risks of AD within 5 years were 0.3% (95% CI, 0.3-0.7), 0.6% (95% CI, 0.4-1.3), 1.5% (95% CI, 1.2-3.9), 3.6% (95% CI, 1.8-12.8), and 10.5% (95% CI, 2.7-44.3) in patients with TAA size of 4.0 to 4.4 cm, 4.5 to 4.9 cm, 5.0 to 5.4 cm, 5.5 to 5.9 cm, and 6.0 cm or larger, respectively, in time-updated models. Rates of the composite outcome of AD and all-cause death were higher than for AD alone, but a similar inflection point for increased risk was observed at 6.0 cm.


Conclusions and Relevance
In a large sociodemographically diverse cohort of patients with TAA, absolute risk of aortic dissection was low but increased with larger aortic sizes after adjustment for potential confounders and competing risks. Our data support current consensus guidelines recommending prophylactic surgery in nonsyndromic individuals with TAA at a 5.5-cm threshold.

Association of Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Size With Long-term Patient Outcomes: The KP-TAA Study.

Abstract Background/Aim The Kaiser Permanente (KP) Northern California Heart Health for South Asians (HHSA) Program is a two-hour educational class that provides culturally relevant lifestyle and dietary recommendations to South Asian (SA) patients, in an effort to reduce their known disproportionate burden of cardiovascular (CV) disease. We evaluated the impact of the HHSA Program on CV risk factors and major adverse CV events (MACE). Methods A retrospective cohort study identified 1517 participants of SA descent, ≥ 18 years old from 2006 to 2019. We evaluated the change in risk factors with program attendance (median follow up of 6.9 years) for systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), triglycerides (TG), LDL, HDL, BMI, and HbA1c. We also performed a propensity matched analysis to evaluate differences in MACE including stroke, myocardial infarction (MI), coronary revascularization, and all-cause mortality. Results There were significant improvements in DBP, TG, LDL-c, HDL-c, BMI, and HbA1c at one year follow up and sustained improvements in DBP (-1.01mmHg, p = 0.01), TG (-13.74 mg/dL, p = 0.0001), LDL-c (-8.43 mg/dL, p = &lt; 0.0001), and HDL-c (3.16 mg/dL, p = &lt; 0.0001) levels at the end of follow up. In the propensity matched analysis, there was a significant reduction in revascularization (OR 0.33, 95% CI 0.14–0.78, p = 0.011) and mortality (OR 0.41, 95% CI 0.22–0.79, p = 0.008), and a trend towards reduction in stroke. Conclusions Our study demonstrates the efficacy of a culturally tailored SA health education program in improving CV risk factors and reducing MACE. The program highlights the importance and value of providing culturally tailored health education in primary CV disease prevention.
